Hey guys, my insurance is up in a few days so will be ringing aroung to get a few prices later. I'm going to change my car within a few weeks though and just wondering would i have to keep my policy with the same insurance company when i get the car i shop around to get a better deal. I presume the latter, but how would i be charged by the old company then? On a pro rata basis?

Also would there be any fees involved for leaving a policy early?

When your policy expires you'll have to either renew it or take out a new policy elsewhere. Why not shop around for insurance for the new car now?

Inform your new/current insurer that you intend to change cars in a few weeks when getting your quotation. Some insures will charge you an "administration" fee for changing policy, irrespective of the premium. Tell your insurer that you expect this charge to be waived.

Your better off keeping your existing policy till renewal. No point in canceling it beforehand as there will probably be some kind of admin fee.

Well, my insurance is up in 2 or 3 days which means i'll have to renew with some company as its very unlikely i'll have a new one sorted by then.

If you don't know what car you're buying it's probably easiest to go with whoever's cheapest for your current car. A couple of days is very tight - you'd want to start shopping around right now.
