    Hello all,

Been thinking for a while that I'd love to go travelling and seeing as my job are taking the absolute michael out of me these days I'm thinking now is the time to go for it. I'd have around €10,000 after I'd pay for a round the world flight.
I'd like to go to South East Asia (Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos), Australia and NZ (I have friends all over Oz so I'd mostly stay with them) and South America. Ideally I'd like to do some volunteering somewhere in there too as I'd be worried I'd be bored at times with just travelling.
So my question is would ten grand be enough? I'm not a fancy hotel person and I've no problem roughing it on trains or buses if it saved me a few quid. I've always found they enhance the experience anyhow.
Also what extra costs should I plan for, i.e. jabs, insurance etc.
    Thanks very much in advance

    Hi OP,
I'm doing pretty much the same as you only in the opposite direction. Planning 9 months in total > south america, New zealand, oz, and South East Asia. I only intend spending 3 weeks in each of OZ and Nz - I hear OZ and NZ are very expensive, Australia in particular. My budget for the 9 months will be 12k. I'd say your budget is bang on, but it will depend on how long you're in OZ and NZ.
I am interested in hearing what others have to say though, even for my own information!!
    good luck with your trip.:)

I spent more than that in 7 months in SEA.. Think Oz and New Zealand will either kill your budget or kill your options in other places.

Try get them up to Bangkok for a holiday and a few nights out so ya can see them.

If you want to volunteer and get free accom in exchange, you could try WWOFing or similar. Keep Couch surfing in mind too to cut down costs.

I spent 10k in 8 months but half of that was in very cheap countries. So it's definitely doable!

I knew SE Asia would be cheap. I guess I can't avoid Oz as I know so many people out there. Its hard to imagine I'd get the oppurtunity to get out that way too often.
Is it best to book low cost flights in and around SE Asia or shoud I include them on my round the world flight?

Internal flights around SEA can be very cheap if you use some of the low costs airlines like Airasia and book a while in advance. I'd have thought that this will allow you to preserve your miles depending on what around the world tickets you have. Also they also prohibit backtracking so this mightn't suit you, so I would have though book SEA tickets separately is the best idea? Suppose just play around with some online ticket searches and you'll get a good idea? Try sky scanner or statravel.co.uk

I spend €3500 for three months in South Asia.... You should be ok with €10,000 providing you dont drink a lot of beers... Foods is cheap. Have a good trip...

    Hi Simo28

I am pretty much doing the same trip, heading in January, can't wait. My budget is about the same, however I intend to be gone for 14 months. I hope to work in Oz as I know a good few over there and family so hopefully I will get something for a few months so I can save for the trip home through New Zealand and South America. If your only going for 9 months and not working I would imagine you budget might be a bit tight, but best to stay longer in Asia as its fairly cheap in comparison to Oz. Even thought Oz is expensive, would be worth doing a trip.
