While I do listen to Morning Ireland, they should do it on TV as before. It looks enough like a Fr. Ted's Raffle as it is, on TV, without having it on radio. It really does leave it open to all sorts of jiggery pokery! Put it back on one of the Sunday Game shows, and do it properly.

The most annoying thing is that London, Waterford or Carlow are the only teams I can see Cavan having a chance against. Carlow may even be pushing it!

    Laois v Carlow,

    Westmeath v Louth,

    Roscommon v Armagh,

    Fermanagh v Cavan,

    Tipp v Offaly,

    London v Antrim,

    Wicklow v Waterford,

    Longford v Derry.

Will the Waterford game be reversed. We traveled last year to play London and Limerick, and Wicklow had a home game. No doubt the G.A.A. will find some loop hole to not switch it, like we came into the draw at the second stage of the competition last year having got a bye to the Munster Final. When it comes to the qualifiers, we always seem to have to play away in them.

Is it not the case that you cannot meet a team you have previously played at this early stage? Louth and Westmeath have played each other already.

I thought that was the case also , but seems to have changed the rule again this year.

Louth will play Westmeath, but Louth will give up home advantage to Westmeath as Louth got a home draw in 1st round of last years qualifiers (v meath which was moved to Cavan ) and Westmeath were away in their game, so Westmeath get the home game in this round.
Thats if i am understanding correctly what they were saying on the radio this morning when making the draw.
And if both teams were drawn away in last years qualifiers, then a toss of a coin is used to decide home advantage.
Lot of headscratching and scenarios for what should be an open draw in my opinion.

That's correct. Westmeath have home advantage as they were away last year whereas Louth had a home draw (which as you say, ended up in Cavan).

From a Louth perspective, it's a right bag of sh*t. Playing a side we've already played in the Leinster Championship and who we've also faced in the league this year and last. Don't know why they removed the old rule where you couldn't face a side in round 1 of the qualifiers that you'd already played.

Age-old argument but the GAA really need to look at the championship format. It's becoming more and more tired with each passing year..

    My Predictions

    Laois v Carlow - Laois by 2

    Westmeath v Louth - Louth by 5

    Roscommon v Armagh - Armagh by 6

    Fermanagh v Cavan - Fermanagh by 4

    Tipp v Offaly - Tipp by 1

    London v Antrim - London by 2

    Wicklow v Waterford - Wicklow by 7

    Longford v Derry - Draw

At least by fixing it this way they have set up some competitive games, Longford v Derry and Armagh v Roscommon should be good gams. Also the games are all fairly local with no one having to travel massive distances.

4 of the fixtures are local derbies, hmmmm. Any way hope it produces good football!

Apart from Roscommon v Armagh all home wins i reckon. Longford v Derry or Fermanagh v Cavan will probably be the TV game.

A team shouldn't be awarded home advantage just because they were away last year. That's stupid. Play the games as they come out of the hat.

No really interesting games. The winners of London v Antrim, Fermanagh v Cavan and Wicklow v Waterford will be only cannon fodder in the later rounds. Derry got a tough draw as Pearse Park is a hard place to get a result. Longford will fancy their chances there as Derry were very poor on Saturday.

Wicklow did play at home last year, but that was a replay against us. They were drawn out away in the first round last year.

That said, if it is about being fair, then I think Waterford should get the home draw, given Wicklow did themselves get a home fixture.

Des Newton was clueless in that game has he learnt anything since? Armagh would beat Galway if they faced them that's the up hill task facing Roscommon now.

Challenge matches have been encouraging, more in that the young players are being blooded and playing well and Donie and Senan seem to be finding their shooting boots than the results (which were all wins, including one over Donegal).

I fully expect us to come out with a much improved system and performance, we rarely get smashed twice in a row, much less at home.

Westmeath are well positioned to get their revenge over Louth. Louth have suffered badly recently with injuries and with players leaving the panel, and morale will hardly be high after the hammering they got from Dublin. Plus they were fortunate enough to beat Westmeath the first day anyway. This one will be Westmeath's for the taking.

Is Des Newton up to it though? I know this Roscommon team is potentially better than what they showed against Galway, but honestly I've rarely seen a team so poorly prepared and organised as Ros were that day, and the blame for that surely lies with the management team.

Tipp had quite a good game against Kerry though and could have ran them much closer if they were more clinical.

Everyone tipping Fermanagh to win is great news. I never like the tag of favourites.

It'll definitely be a close game but there's hope Cavan can scrape it.

I do. I accept we're favourites but we are no world beaters and have blown very hot and cold in recent years.

With Wicklow 9-2 up, I could honestly say I had just witnessed the worst 40 minutes from an Armagh Senior team in all my time watching them (1976 on). The team was quite rightly booed off the pitch at half time. That said, they showed a bit of bottle to get back up off the floor, even withstanding two crushing goals that had us on the brink each time.

    That was a rollercoaster ride!!

Fair point, I'll rephrase. Never underestimate Armagh's ability to defeat the top teams in the country and then lose to a side they should, on paper, easily defeat.

Sounds like some amount of incident in the games. The Longford - Derry game supposedly had a last minute Derry goal ruled out. 3 red cards in the Westmeath - Louth game (surely Fitzer will be gone now). Also, Luke Dempsey stepped down as Carlow manager.

Yep - and I was in Aughrim.

Wicklow player assaulted in first half off the ball. Red Card. Wicklow player assaulted in extra time off the ball - yellow card given.

John Flynn (Wicklow no.1) left laying out for a few minutes after a late challenge. 45 given.

Assorted Waterford players going down at very regular intervals, and then getting up straight away thus breaking up forward play. No warning given.

Wicklow players being pulled back. No warnings issued.

Strange game in longford . Derry dominated nidfield for the whole game but were outscored 17 to 10. Longford forwards v economical while they defended tigerishly. Conceded two goals Rom high balls and last play saw a derry forward win a ball and was bundled down by LD goalies only to be awarded a free out in an obvious home town decision imo. Derry tho were poor enough. Paddy and eoin are a shadow of a few years ago, no pace and too easy to turn back. Game delayed ten mins in second half due to a neck injury to longford player

Draw for next round of qualifiers (to be played July 14) is on TV3 tomorrow morning at 8.35am

Does anyone know how home field advantage is determined - do provincial semi-final losers get a home draw or is it neutral venues?

I know I couldn't believe it, still we should never underestimate a wounded rossie team. I'd say Armagh's sheer arrogance and cockiness cost them and one must remember Roscommon came close to defeating Tyrone a few years back was it not for some woeful refereeing. I'd like to see them make it to the quarter finals, nice to see Connaught in the shake up all the time.

Ironically the only arrogance and cockiness around here is from yourself, given that you're posting about something you haven't the first clue about.

Well done to the Roscommon posters around here - far better team and well deserving of victory - I really hope youse go far.

As for ourselves - an embarrassment.
