My brother baught a M1730 off adverts awhile back for fairly cheap, all it needed was the graphics card to be reflowed which I did for him by popping it in the oven for him which work perfectly but when we tried to play a few games like Fabel 3 and race Driver Grid we we're getting painfully low FPS on every possible setting even on the lowest we were getting the exact same FPS.
Same goes for playing back on HD videos the odd time.
I checked the pefromance meter and it said CPU was at 100% load even tho it should be more then able to handle these tasks.
Even the WEI gaves the CPU a rating of 2.4 even tho it should be much higher then that. I tried reappling new TIM and dusting out the entire laptop but no sucess, anyone got any idea what it could be?

    Here's his specs:
    CPU: Core 2 Duo T8300 @ 2.40GHz
    RAM: 2GB DDR2 667MHz
Graphics: x2 Geforce 8800m GTX in SLI
    HDD: 200GB Hitachi

The "oven trick" is very much a workaround and doesn't solve the problem (except temporarily). I would avoid doing anything graphically intensive on the machine unless properly reflowed as it should just make it fail again sooner. The low fps could be the system slowing the gpu down as it detects that it is getting too hot, that would be my take on it anyways

figured out what it is, the dc socket on the laptop is abit temperamental and when it's on plugin but not charging the pefromance decress just like if it were on battery power, is there anyway round this? cause I tried setting the poer plan to high perfomance but didn't work even after configuring it
