Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows about the legalities of Graffiti in Ireland, are there designated areas/walls for it and and where can you find out about them, and what kind of penalties does illegal Graffiti carry?

    Dont do it illegaly.

If you're in Dublin, have a word with the guys in All-City records. They sell grafitti supplies, might be good for advice. You can always ask friends about spare walls (people who are redecorating might be a good bet!) or garden walls to practice on.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

There's the Bernard Shaw lane at the back of the pub and then there's windmill lane. There two legal places in Dublin city. Most skate parks dont care because well they cant get any worse.

For arts sake please don't do any of those mindless talentless 'tags'. As the other posters say there are some legal areas in Dublin where graffitti of merit is left undisturbed. There is a Dublin business group working on painting out graffitti in the city centre at present (read bout them in the paper), so perhaps find out from them what areas they do not target.

I've been keeping an eye on this thread and just want to reinforce what hs been said above, no illegal graffiti discussion is to take place here.

Personally, I think it's great that an awareness is developing of graffiti as an art - with spaces becoming available and workshops for artists.

Think pieces through, make a statement rather than a signature and have respect.

If I was you I wouldn't start off on walls at all there are lots of things people discard everyday in skips or on the street that you can use as your canvas when your starting out or even if you are really good like this guy http://www.flickr.com/photos/thedudecompany/6896491519/. If caught doing illegal graffiti I think it is criminal damage and I think its a fine not exceeding £1,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or both but I'm not a lawyer or Garda so I'm not sure about that. The Criminal Damage Act can be found here http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/1991/en/act/pub/0031/index.html
