Just saw one of these. Its a 4 door.

What do people think of them? Would you buy one over a similar 5 Series?

    Personally I'd go for a 2 door 6 Series and 4 door 5 Series.

was in one the other day, not driving btw.
its a stunning car, but the 640d i was sitting in at 99k, i dont think its a 5 series rival.

Might be the best looking of the current gen, though Id like to see it in the metal.

    Can be got as the 640i (320bhp) and 650i (450bhp..!) too. 650i sounds nice, V8 (twin turbo I imagine), 8.8 L/100km and 0-100kph in 4.6s. Mighty numbers for a non-M car.

M5 would be a better option at that money

Saw one the other day in Murphy & Gunn and I love it. I recognised it as a 6 series straight away but had to double check when I noticed the extra doors. Beautiful. The 4 door is only about 3k more expensive than the 2 door yet far more practical and it looks as much a coupe as the 2 door. It's a shame about the price though. The 5 series starts at 43k, the 6 series GC starts at 97k.

    Totally different animal though?
Consider the M6 is more expensive than the M5 and it becomes clear the hierarchy of the model lineup places the 6 series as top dog:
    http://external.bmw.ie/sausage/templates/bmw06/downloads/BMWModelRangePricelist.pdf

    650i - 132k (123k for the SE model)
    M5 -134k
    M6 - 173k

Think the M6 is actually more most expensive car they do (X5M/X6M included)..

EDIT: Actually the 760i is, the Li MSport model is 189k. No recession over at BMW HQ.. :D

The 650i even avoids band G taxation because it is so fuel efficient for a V8 - so is less to tax than a 3.0 engined car on the old engine size system - which is nice:pac:!

For the more pragmatic individual though the 640d is the only way to go - the 640i is utterly pointless as it has barely any more power over the diesel and thanks to our stupid tax laws costs €5,000 more to buy as well.

Was reading in a BMW magazine today, the 650i SE starts at £63,000 in the UK. :(

    The new M5 is 150k to the 640d's 100k?

Its BMW's answer to the Audi A7 and Merc CLS. Chances are if you are looking at one of these you will not be looking at a 5 Series as an alternative.

Was never a big fan of the 6 series.

I like coupes but maybe it's the size that puts me off. I'd have the A5 but couldn't have the A7. No bother with a C or E Class coupe but dont like the CLS.

    I'd rather have the M5

I think I would go for the 6 series GC in the M-Sport spec.
Although I don't know what engine I would go for.

The Audi A7 in Quattro 3.0 litre bi-Turbo spec produces the exact same amout of bhp as the 640d m-sport does.

My friend bought one yesterday (coupe rather than 4 door). I haven't seen it yet, but I'm looking forward to getting a spin in it (and want first refusal when he sells it in 3 years:D)
