    Good Morning all,

I have completely restored a new Lenovo to factory default, done all updates and restored the customers backup of photos, files etc. The original complaint was that it was running slow and there where while little lines going over the screen as though someone was using a drill near a TV. Given the amount of rogue software that was downloaded onto the laptop i immediately suggested that it may be infected with a virus. I used standard removal tools and returned the laptop because they didn't want it formatted and have to install their software again. The white lines came back a week later and I reformatted yesterday. Last night the lines came back again.

I am going to give her a replacement laptop with her backup and see if the problem presents itself on the replacement. If anyone has seen this before I would be happy to hear from them before I send it back to Lenovo as faulty.

No piece of software I have ever seen would create the above issue. And depending on how video games play (ie. do game assets, like bullets and fire, behave even more strangely than above) you can even rule out the GPU. At first glance it looks like a problem with the LCD Screen itself. Real simple to rule out, too: simply connect the laptop to an external monitor.

So i brought the machine back and left the customer with a t410s which they will be happy with for a week or so. I ran up the e525 and everything was fine for about an hour and then the icons appeared distorted. I looked for an update for the bios (it was already up to date) and then downloaded the latest catalyst driver from the amd website using auto detect. No improvment. Dark colours like green look very bad. I think this is going to be returned to Lenovo.

This sounds to me like a hardware problem, either the screen, the connector cable or the block connectors on the screen or the motherboard. As suggested plug it into a external monitor and that will tell you for sure. if it works fine externally you can start investigating the integrated graphics chip.

I don't see the point in sending it back to Lenovo if its simply a screen issue, cos it will take forever to get it back of them
