I've got a rare weekend off and there's two sportives on the 24th and I can't decide which one to go for (hence the title). There's a 100km in Sligo, the pros for this are that I can go to the Showgrounds on Saturday night and I've never cycled in Sligo, the minus is it's a long way home afterwards. The West Cork 200, pros are there's a variety of routes so I could maximize the miles, con is I've cycled a lot in Cork.

If the sportives are of a similar level, I would always attend the one, which is closer to my place of residence.
Driving hundreds of kilometres with the bike to cycle in remote places is quite against my philosophy of cycling, which is to reduce our impact on the environment ;).

Sure, we all need to bring our bikes into the Events, but I would always choose shorter distance to travel, unless there is a much more attractive sportive elsewhere.

And there's the Tour de Burren, also the Coachford - Muskerry sportive, i can't decide between them myself.

WC200 is a lovely spin, did it last year and would recommend. Cant do it this year because of damned work getting in the way of real life.

And there's the Tour de Burren...
Would this one be worth attending? Anyone did it before?

I did the 100km here last year and it was enjoyable. Nice tea and cakes at doolin. Gonna do the 160km this year, tho they seem to have put in some ridiculous hills just for the sake of it.

Looks like a painful one :). However, I may give it a go, if my commute is not ging to kill me during the week. The weather is worse than ever. I did not get wet as often during the first 3 months of the year as I did during the last two to three weeks.

Enjoy the corkscrew if you are doing anything in the burren. I think it's part if the route. It's still a long drive up there though but driving to Sligo is a good 4 hours from Kilkenny. My wife is away that weekend so can't share the driving unfortunately. Hope this rubbish weather clears.

Thanks for the responses. Seweryn, I did the Tour de Burren back in 2009 and thought it was an awesome event, no big climbs in it at but the wind was there to make up for that, personally I found Corkscrew over-rated.

    Thank you Captain.

I suspected the wind is going to have some effect on the cycle, as it is on the coast. Anyway, would you not go there this year?

I will be there, it's the day after I don't know what to do.

Capt. If you are in Co Clare for the Saturday and don't fan y a big drive, you could do woes than cycle over to Lough Derg and do a lap of the lough (130km).
Not a sportif, but a spectacular cycle nonetheless.

Yep an excellent day out, the corkscrew is medium difficulty at best, excellent surface on it though, Jesus don't mention the wind, it was endless, after last year they promised to tone it down this year :D. Ice creams at the end were divine.
