I rang them for a replacement battery for my car key (battery should cost about 3 euro). The guy said that my key (Renault Scenicr) has a common fault which will be the issue and quoted me 80 euros for a fix.

Anybody any experience of them before I trail up to them. (I'll get them to test the battery first of course)

Why don't you go to the local keycutter, or even Halfords and have the battery replaced first? If it is still not working, then you will look for fix?
I know there are some issues with Renault keys (i assume it is one of those used in Lagunas first?), but replace the battery first, and see if it works before you hand 80 euro to anyone.
