Query regarding Fees and student contribution

    Folks,

My wife is looking at going back to college as a mature student. She is hoping to qualify for fees grant and then BTEA (back to education allowance) as she currently works part time and gets jobseekers benefit for days she doesn't work.

All seems fine, however LYIT have indicated because she done a course 10 years ago and had fees paid then by grant she won't be eligible this time.

Question then is this, if students have to pay fees are they exempt from paying the student contribution (this to me sounds like paying twice for the same thing!)?

    Thanks in advance.

The student contribution is separate from the tuition fee - you have to pay both! If your wife didn't complete her course before she could qualify for free fees etc under the second chance route - look up studentfinance.ie

She'll have to tuition fees plus the student contribution

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
