Hi guys I posted this over in the pregnancy thread but no one seems to have any experience of it there so I said I'd chance my arm that someone here may have some info for me.

I'm 21 weeks pregnant and I've been referred to a foetal heart specialist in Holles Street for a detailed heart screening for baby because of risk of congenital heart defect based on my partners medical history.

I suppose I'd just like to know what to expect there and what they are like?

I don't know if I did - I am a type 1 diabetic so was told that they would take an extra strong look at the heart so they did extra scans if that makes any sense. They had to check to make sure that the blood flow was OK. They took extra care with the ultrasound and looked at the heart. My children are now 1 and 2 and and keep us busy!

Had this on our second due to echogenic foci on his heart picked up at the anomaly scan - scan done by Professor Fionnuala McAuliffe and another sonagrapher at the same time, very detailed, took about 30 minutes, she gave us the results at the time ( a higher than normal risk of chromosomal abnormality) and asked how we would like to follow up - i.e. did we want amniocentesis, we requested a further scan closer to due date to confirm all was okay with his heart - which it was and we now have a very healthy toddler.
Same procedure as normal scan, I got a bit dizzy lying for so long on my back but they got me to sit up for a break. My partner and 2 year old were with me. Good luck with your scan!
