I know that you have to qualify as a doctor to practise as a doctor, need to pass your law exams to be a solicitor etc etc.

My question is "Is it a legal requirement that you have a health and safety qualification to work in Ireland as a Health & Safety officer for a private company?"

I can't find any specific rules on it.

Could you take up the job and learn it as you go along or would you need to be qualified from day one?

    Any help would be appreciated.

My mate works as a health&Safety officer and had to do a degree through UCD im sure most companies would require a person to have an nebosh/iosh qualication.

There is no legislation to say you need any particular qualification to work as a "Health & Safety Officer"

But if you are asking from the point of view of getting hired into a position, I would say it is very unlikely as there are an awful lot of unemployed Health & Safety graduates out there at the minute.
