I'm not sure if these threads are frowned upon, so apologies if they are.

    Basically here's what I need:
    -a bike with 2 wheels
-something capable of multisport races ala Gaelforce, so light off road use
-something capable of getting me around something like the Dublin Dare
-a bike which will get me up and down mountains for a while as I have the half baked idea of training for some shorter distance triathlons
-nothing incredibly fancy or prone to breaking as I don't know a huge amount about maintenance or repair

My incredibly limited knowledge suggests a hardtail MTB would be a good option with a set of slick tires for road work.

I've seen 2 I like the look of, but have no idea if they're any good:

    http://www.fitzcycles.ie/products.php?product=2012-Kona-%22Blast%22-Hardtail-MTB

Anything suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

...and re: budget - if I'm understanding the cycle to work scheme, the eventual cost to me would be €400-500 (which is my ACTUAL budget).

    Thanks folks.

    Cyclocross bike?

A MTB is going to be no fun on the road.

How about a Giant TCX 3 bike for €845: link

...I should probably expand to say that I plan on going to a full road set up in the next 12 months or so, and don't really like cyclocross bikes for no other reason than I'm a crank.

    :)

why waste money buy your dream bike now, TI bikes are hard to beat top of the range Steel give you a magic ride ,if your going to hold onto your new bike then go custom theres loads of top class builders in the UK,
and there not as expensive as you might think.
    anyway have fun ;)
