    Hey guys

I am going to a tag rugby festival in carlow this weekend, if it looked like it was gonna be dry I was just gonna get the 20 euro dunnes tent, (I used to do a lot of camping so I have a very good sleeping bag, it was more for privacy then shelter).

But it looks like the weather might be a bit wet and windy, any recommendations for a two man tent which is good value (doesn't have to be very cheap, I'll make an investment if its worth it), and short notice.

It depends on where you see yourself using the tent in the future.

if your sticking to campsites and back gardens something like this mights suit

If you think you will be hiking and camping you will need a lighter and more wind appropriate tent but this will be quite snug for two people.

I brought two Vangos to Patagonia in South America recently and found them very durable and light for the price you pay. Wind, rain and snow were no problem, it was only the pesky foxes that managed to leave a mark.

i'd echo that - but i'd say that i'd never take a decent, expensive tent to a festival because it'll just get wrecked. i'd consider a €50 throw-a-way tent part as the admission cost for a festival, much as you'd consider a couple of nights at a cheap hotel the price for a weekend in Paris.

if you fancy something you can walk with, something utterly bombproof, and something that will last a decade, then Aplkits Kangri is £300 and £150 or so cheaper than its rivals - but don't confuse a tent that will get trashed at a festival with one you'll keep and that will see you through winter wild camping, because they might look a bit similar, but they are utterly different beasts.

I have the Vango Beta 250 and it's a great tent. You're not going to go wrong with that one.

If you're looking for cheaper - considering it's a festival - Portwest have the Gelert Rocky 2 for €60 and the Rocky 4 for €64. Decent enough tents too though not as good as the Vangos.

I was looking at that exact tent, thanks guys really appreciate your help.

RE: It'll get wrecked, I hope a tag rugby tournament is a little more mellow than a music festival, though we will see

Has anyone any opinions on the Vango Halo 200 v's the Vango Mirage 200. I want a tent to take out for overnight photography purposes (Aurora, sunrises etc). Does the Mirage feel cramped? Is the Halo too roomy for 1 person? etc...

Your not going to go too far wrong with either to be honest.

My own personal choice would be the Mirage. It's lighter which helps when carrying , and lower which helps in wind.

I also think the door design would be more suitable for photography. I'll assume you only take photos of the sky when it's not raining. Well when its fine you can pull back both sides of the door and have a 180degree viewing angle whilst still being wrapped up inside the tent.
With the halo it looks like half of each side doesn't really fold back as its part of the main flysheet, you would also have to crawl out on the ground to get as wide an angle in my opinion

Those pop-up tents are truly awful, but they will probably do for the one festival. They are also unbelievably easy to deploy. As long as you don't get torrential rain or a storm, you'd be fine. If you do, you'll get wet.

You're not going to go wrong with that tent. It's a fine little one. I considered it myself but got the Beta for the extra porch space.
