    Hi All,

Has anyone on here played Sutton GC? Care to share your views on it? I might be trying to join there as it is 10 mins from where I live and just wondering peoples opinions.

    Thanks

9 holes, short, well kept, dull.

Not worth playing or joining...pokey 9 holes and full of toff's

A few very good links holes but I think I would get board playing the same nine over and over. I find it very claustrophobic.
Has one of the shortest pars 3s around. Why not pop up the road and join Howth. I think they have some pretty good membership offers on at present.

TOFFS ???? care to explain as I've never set foot in the place and would not have thought a 9 hole track like Sutton was the course of choice for Lord and Lady Muck.

Tis good for a round or two but as said, a tad dull. But if possible, I'd look at Howth GC before considering Sutton.

Thanks for the comments, I think I will give both a run...

Actually opinions on Howth while we are here? Any other suggestions?

If you're 10 minutes from Sutton chances are Malahide, St Anne's and even the likes of Forrest Little, corrstown etc. are within a short enough commute from you. I'm assuming Sutton still has an entrance fee of some sort.

I played a few times, and would echo some of the sentiments:
    Some very short holes.
Some very tough holes in that there is very high rough, if you go into the rough you can forget finding the ball unless you stand on it.
Great views over the bay, one of the days I was there there were kite-surfers flying along the beach alongside the golf course.
Stuffed with stuffed shirts - the people.
Facilities basic, not spartan, but below the level you'd expect from a golf club.
Conclusion - very handy if you lived close by for the few jars after a game and you could walk home and collect the car the next day, but I wouldnt bother for the golf.

I've played Sutton numerous times and you would think you'd get sick of playing the same 9 holes but the weather conditions change make it a different 9. Take the first hole for example, if the wind is with you, ya can easily drive the green, if the wind is blowing into your face its a tricky par 4 with a tight fairway, wind blowing from left to right, there's a danger of your tee shot being blown into the sea, right to left and your ball could end up in one of their bunkers. This can be said for the majority of the holes in Sutton, it's a lovely course and well worth a round of golf. If you want value for your money give Howth Golf Club a thought. 18 holes, some are tough, some are not, weather conditions play a massive part and on a clear day the scenery from the course is outstanding. I'm pretty sure their membership is cheaper than Sutton and there's no reason why you cant haggle them down to a lower fee.
