Why would you only get your GUI by the end of the summer?

Play 3 rounds on the course with someone who already has a GUI marking your card. Hand the cards in at the club house all signed etc and you will get your GUI handicap and card in no more than a week if the handicap secretary is going his job properly. You can then play in opens etc anywhere with your official handicap and keep track of it all on golfnet and howdidido.

That's for the pay as you play deal?

How much is it per round after that?
