Anyone used Cyanogenmod?

    http://www.cyanogenmod.com/about

I had upgraded my Galaxy S2 up to ICS (Android 4.0.3) and was pretty happy with it. On a whim I decided to install version 9 of Cyanogenmod (the ICS based one). The ICS version is not out of beta yet so I took the latest nightly build and installed it. Very impressed indeed with it. It seems to do everything you can think of and fixes the frustrations you come across with ICS. Haven't had a single issue with it.

    Anyone else tried it?

Installed it on my Galaxy Nexus last night.

It is a superb ROM, with good battery life out-of-the-box, so to speak. I immediately installed Nova Launcher though as it has a bunch of features that Trebuchet [the stock CM launcher] does not.

I'm really sorry about this but I just joined this website and I have no idea how to do anything, and this includes starting threads. Can someone help me? I checked the FAQ page but it wasn't any help

Not sure. I know it wasn't but haven't tried it, nor do I need to so wasn't an issue for me.

Read this topic: (Guide to new threads)

    There's a newbie section here.

Back on Topic, used CM7 on my SGS1 for a while. When I got my Nexus, a lot of the roms seemed to be based off CM9, so thought it'd be more worth my while just to use that.

Second Nova Launcher. It's farely good and you can save your homescreen settings on it too. So when you flash another rom on it, just use Nova and load up your settings.

Instructions on how to install. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419102

Not actually that difficult once you figure out what they are on about.

Done at your own risk obviously.

I've been using it for a few months now, provided you've got a decent internet connection, it's easy to update every day or two, as the updates are always no wipe.

Have you tried any themes yet?

Have the GM9 Nightly up and running on the Galaxy S. working well so far, no issues with Wifi/Bluetooth et al, or the calling everything seems to be working very well. Go for it for a unbloated ROM, especially if you have a Galaxy S or another device which won't be officially getting ICS (only thing not ported yet is FM radio), the nightlies are definitely quite stable

FM radio is a Samsung app, so won't be ported. The FM receiver is working though, so you can use other FM radio apps (problem is finding a free one) I use the free spirit one that's only available on xda now

I've been trying to use the backups of my apps to reinstall some of the Samsung apps but so far no luck. Though haven't spent much time on it yet.

To get Samsung apps restored I think there is a touchwiz addon for CM9 you can get over at XDA (for Galaxy S anyway, not sure how good/bad it is as havn't used it but check the thread for feedback). I think there are issues with getting the radio working safely at all even third party apps on ICS Galaxy S due to drivers I think :S . Not something I need so doesn't bother me :) . Have to say though ICS is a massive improvement to Gingerbread imo, everything about it feels more polished and battery life is excellent/speed etc all good.

If you are using Titanium to reinstall backups the installation instructions for CM tell you not to, don't know why.

You can use it to reinstall the data for some apps, I used it for k-9 and a few others. But I tried to get it to recover the Samsung apps and it doesn't work.

I have installed this on my Moto G and it works fine other than the fact I have no 2G or 3G internet access. I'm on the 48 network and have entered my APN settings correctly, any ideas?

If you're on a device with a stock ROM and Cyanogen isn't stable yet, you're better off rooting and getting Xposed Framework with GravityBox. Gives you all the good bits from CM - circular battery, volume button track skip, statusbar/navbar colours and size, loads of tweaking options.

Have it on my S3, it uses Android 4.4.2, its really good, the phone is really responsive and quick and the battery life is much improved.

Haven't used Cyanogenmod before but plan on getting a OnePlus very interested to see what they have come up with there!

Have used it for years to keep older devices up to date. But have an S4 now, and I'm running the installer version. It randomly reboots a bit too much for my liking - will probably move to rooted stock.
