Drumcondra social or volunteer groups

    Hi,
I have a relative who will be moving to Drumcondra and she is about 62 years old and has just retired.
I would like to help her make new friends in that area and widen her social circle, it can be hard at that age sometimes trying to find things to do in the day.

I'm just wondering is there any social groups or volunteer groups in the 55 - 68 age bracket in that locality or in the wider Dublin 9 area,
    Thank you

    Moved from PI.

PI is an advice forum for people experiencing issues of a personal nature - you're best asking in this forum for geographically specific guidance on what's on...

    All the best.

I know there's definitely a prayer group that does social stuff in Our Lady of Dolors Church in Glasnevin.

Could be worth talking to the Botanic Gardens, Drumcondra Library, Corpus Christi Church and a few other local similar organisations to see if they know of anything going on.

I'm probably not much help, but hopefully she gets sorted :)

Ozanam House just off Mountjoy Square is near Drumcondra.

    You can learn more by checking this link;

They run an active retirement group which may be of interest to your relative.

It's not too far to Seomra Spraoi (http://seomraspraoi.org), which is just off Dorset St.

Well this is in town http://www.thirdage.ie/mysitecaddy/site3/dublincultural.htm

But I think the council have some kind of initiative for older people too

The local library would be a good source of info. There should be a few walking groups nearby

Also any local schools would have evening classes which could be a good way to meet people

The Irish Deaf Society has a charity shop on the NCR - opposite Doyles Pub in Phibsboro - and always looking for volunteers

Even if you could only spare an hour or 2 a week, I know they would appreciate it and as far as I know, they have a wide range of people working in the shop...

    Tis an idea...
