What Shows Did You Drop/Give Up On This Year?

Was there any show that you droppe this year? Not because you had to (due to it being cancelled / finishing up) but because you were just fed up with it.

    For me:

'The Office' - The show should have died once Steve Carrell left. It wasn't even that funny last year but this was the death knell of the show. I realised at Christmas that I had a bunch of episodes building up and I just didn't care if I never saw them. So I stopped.

'Family Guy' - About six episodes in I realised that I'd have to wade through nine episodes of crap to get to the one decent episode. Not worth the hassle of sitting through weak plots and time wasting cut scenes.

'South Park' - Too much hit/miss ratio. Closer call with this but realised it just wasn't amusing me enough.

'Suits' - Nothing particularly bad about the show but nothing of any depth either and I found Harvey to be just too smug. I won't be returning for its second season.

I'm humming and hawing about 'Dexter' after the last two weak seasons, as well as 'How I Met Your Mother'.

So what about everyone else? Did you reach a tipping point with any of your shows?

The killing (us). I just couldn't face into season 2. Maybe during the summer and watch it all at once.

Also awake, alkatraz and touch (think ill get through touch over the summer though)
They just seemed to ask too much for very little payoff.

Awake. Just didnt grab me enough to keep watching and I wasnt in the mood to be drawn into another show that I will ultimately get frustrated with as they try to draw out the plot.

how I met your mother is gone for me, I just can't stand anyone in it anymore and it hasn't been funny all season. I'll check out who the mother is on Wikipedia or something when it finally lurches over the finish line

I agree with How I met your mother, gone shockin downhill lately

Agreed. I watched ep 9 of Awake tonight but I'm getting very bored with it. Alcatraz lasted 3 eps for me and Touch only 2. Can't see myself watching too more of Continuum either.

How I met your mother, Alcatraz, Luck, One Tree Hill, Dexter (have it on Sky+ though), Boardwalk Empire, Masterchef UK, Friends (finally stopped watching), Scrubs (finally stopped watching). Also found the Walking Dead latest season pretty boring for the most part, but I will probably watch the next one.

Have a few series recorded like Touch as well, but I cant see myself getting into them either.

TV is pretty awful for the most part at the minute imo. Game of Thrones is the only thing I had to sit down and watch over the past few months.

Apparently ep. 11-13 of Awake are the best.

4 eps left - I'll probably stick it out. But 11-13 will have to be damn good for me to bother with season 2.

I dropped Bones, Gossip Girl and The Killing (US).

I tend to cling on for dear life to shows so when I drop them it's because there's no hope.

No one mention that Awake isn't getting a second season.

Yvonne Strahovski joining next season. :D

I dropped Touch and Hart of Dixie. Touch was just really boring and HoD was pretty much just case of the week and I already watch Royal Pains for that.

Had a conversation with a guy at work about something like this: How many episodes do you give before you decide to drop or not, then how many do you have to watch before you pass the point of no return and have to keep watching?

Didn't hear that. Not a major surprise.

Was looking forward to Dexter anyway - now even more so :)

God - forget about HoD. Ditched that pretty quickly. Pretty young doctor saves the day every week but still gets hard time from asshole local. Not exactly a new idea.[/QUOTE]

i once gave a show about 15 seconds before i realized i didnt like it :D

i remember giving up on breaking bad after 3 episodes, thankfully i saw the error of my way and returned near the end of season 3,

this season gave up on Alcatraz and touch,

i find it hard to give up shows that ive been watching for year, last show i gave up on that i had over 2 seasons invested in was heroes, currently the big bang theory and how i met your mother are looking dodgy for my mouse click, but knowing me ill stick it out like the idiot i am sure ya know its only 40 mins every other week:o:(,

its really not, its sub daytime soap opera melodrama with ridiculously stupid characters. it started really well, I stuck with it until season 2, and then when a zombie appeared out of nowhere on a deserted road when a driver took their eyes off the road for a split second I was just like yeah fcuk this show lol

Watched the first episode of Awake and thought it was terrible, couldn't believe the high reviews the pilot got. Watched the pilot of Touch too, and thought it was much more compelling.

Gave up half-way through Season 2 of The Walking Dead. Got very, very slow in the beginning of the Season but will give it a second go. Same goes for Boardwalk Empire, gave up mid-season but hear it has a good finale so will catchup.

Catching up on Season 4 of Breaking Bad. Finally got around to watching all the Seasons up to 4, and in a way I'm thankful I let them stockpile because waiting a year for the next Season after their Season finales must be painful :D Although I will experience this after Season 5 airs this year. Easily the best thing on TV at the mo.

Another show I droped was LOST. I really did get "LOST" in the plot after season 1.

Spent my last night in Bangkok watching all of season1 of breaking bad. Sad you may say but nearly four weeks of drinking et al takes it out of you and you miss tv

Currently wartching Fraser, gold rush and storage wars.

Given up on south park, scrubs, 2.5men and top gear even when it comes back. Not enough actual car content anymore.

I gave up on Dexter this season after one episode, did I make a mistake?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,085 ✭✭✭meoklmrk91

Hart of Dixie: Wanted to like it but you can't even class it as shallow,it has no depth whatsoever, one of the poorest shows to receive a second season that I can think of.

Suits: Grand start but it didn't build to anything so I dropped it.

    Up all night: Unfunny fluff.

Nearly gave up on House too, very poor season, but I will finish it out of loyalty, 8 years and I have seen every single episode.

Having trouble with Breaking Bad as well, can't motivate myself to finish it at all, may end up dropping it.

Gave up on blue bloods. When you start fast forwarding thru 60% and miss nothing it's time to move on.

Gave up on house for a while but started watching it again and glad I did.

Haven't seen scrubs in a long long time.

I had to force myself to watch the last season of Chuck
didn't watch the second season of The Killing US
    struggled to keep Awake ;)
Touch is a chore as well and won't watch it if it gets a second series
I have finally relented and started watching Deadwood and am loving it, I did the same previously with True Blood and The Wire

Nope. Worst season by far. I'm done with it.

I gave up on Alcatraz. Same format for every epsiode and got very predicatble with a small reveal at the end of each episode. I didn't even want to find out what the reveals were.
On paper it sounds like an excellent show, but execution was rubbish. Have blonde girl on screen with her knockers bouncing about, have Hurley solve a puzzle then catch the dude. Bring him to 'prison' and get a reveal. Woopdidoo.

Seconded! It clearly states you can't troll in the charter and what else could that be?

I dropped 'The Walking Dead' and 'The Killing' last year. AMC's newer shows aren't a patch on their earlier ones.

stick with it, season 4 is one of the greatest seasons of a tv show I've ever seen, the finale is face meltingly good.

Fringe, Alcatraz, Blue bloods and Boardwalk empire. I should stop watching the Mentalist aswell but I don't.
Can't wait for Dexter and Breaking bad to start back

    edit
The last season of spartacus was muck, a good series ruined.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,732 ✭✭✭rain on

House - I watched every single episode of seasons 1-7, most of season 8, and realised with about two episodes to go that I really did not give a flying f^ck about it any more. That show should've ended around season 5.

The Killing (US) - I really enjoyed the first season, was looking forward to the second, and then about twenty minutes into season 2 ep 1 realised that I couldn't face any more of the Rosie Larsen storyline. ZZzzzzz.

Dexter - is there a new season on now? No you're grand thanks.

    awake
    touch

    alcatraz

This season I ignored Family Guy, American Dad, and The Big Bang Theory. I dropped 30 Rock mid-season last year too. I just realised they're all comedies. The only one I missed slightly (not enough to start watching again) was 30 Rock, but I got over it.

I was thinking of dropping Fringe also. But since they announced there's only 13 more episodes left I decided to stick with it to the end.

Even worse, they had that for about the first couple eps then made her cover up and not run much

I'm suprised, I thought the next logical step was to turn the secret control room in Alcatraz into a bouncing castle or at least have a trampoline area.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,990 ✭✭✭squonk

    For me it was

Touch - Gave up about 7-8 eps in when the show was going absolutely frikkin nowhere
Awake - Again, I just wasn't buying the premise that much and realised I didn't care enuh about the guy.
Girls - I think I've all but given up on this. Don't really like Hannah at all.

Other shows I gave up on are

Dexter - I found it was only OK.
Burn Notice - Ideally it had Bruce Campbell which is always a winner but the show annoyed me in places (like when they changed Fiona's accent overnight with a stupid excuse).

House - I decided to see it out but were there a Season 9, I might not have returned.
Lost - Great start, sucky weaving of more and more pointless plots and events
The Event - See Lost. Didn't want to get into that again.

Not getting the Hart Of Dixie hate. It's not particularly great but not that bad either. A few episodes I really wan't into but the way I feel about it, I don't care. If it comes back, I'll watch but if it didn't come back then I wouldn't mind.

I don't think I gave up on anything. I soldiered on through some series (The Office, HIMYM, Desperate Housewives) out of some masochistic sense of commitment and I didn't even bother picking up any new shows apart from New Girl, which I let everyone else review first. Also House of Lies, which I really should not have persevered with.

I did watch the pilot of Awake and would have watched more but once I heard it was axed I didn't bother. I'm not sure if that counts.
