    Hi all,
Sorry for asking this question in the general Emergency services thread, but I really had no idea as to which sub forum this would fall into. o.O

First off, just wanted to say I've always had the utmost of respect of the Gardai and the job they do. An impossible job, made even harder by the ridiculous justice system in this country...

Anyway, enough about that.. For the last 8-10 months, my family have been living in fear of a relation who has numerous issues regarding his mental health, but is still an extremely dangerous individual. My father has been dealing with a Sergent from the local station, and this man has truly gone above, and beyond the call of duty to ensure our safety and that of those around us. I really cannot explain just how much of a help this man has been, so I don't think I'll even try :p

I just have one question. My father is looking to write a letter to someone higher up within an garda siochana, in order to show our gratitude, and appreciation for what the Sergent has done. My point is, who exactly would be the best person to send this letter to? We are located in Cork City, so are we better off sending it to the top man here? Or the top man in Munster? Or hell, even the ombudsman or commissioner??

Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

Most serving Gardai on here would probably suggest writing to the District Superintendent.

Ya, if you want to show your appreciation I'd be writing to the Superintendant or Chief-superintendent. Chief is base in Anglesea St, Super is based in your local district headquarters (gurranabraher, togher, mayfield or anglesea st). The ombudsman only wants to hear bad news so leave them out of it.

Nice to see someone making an effort to say thanks.

    It's funny...

I've always found (in 28 years service) that if some one has a gripe they write to the Commissioner or the Minister.

If it's a pat on the back or a thank you it's to the Super.

Nothing as strange as folk :p

    Straight to Shatter.

Seriously, nothing gets the local managements attention like the Park letter head arriving down attached to the green harp letter from Kildare St. ;)

Commissioner, the more hands it goes through the more records of it are kept. :)
