    Hey guys and gals,

got a tooth extracted last Wednesday. Pain was unbearable so went in on friday. Dentist said extraction was clean, wound had no traces of tooth or bone. Possibly dry socket, packed the extraction hole with a dressing which has since gone.

Ive been prescribed some antibiotics and some tramadol. I find the tramadol doesnt do anything for pain relief.

I have some difenes in my drawer from a previous injury, Im wondering if anyone has tried these with dentisitry pain?

Ive stopped taking the tramadols and gone back to taking the max amount of paracetemol and neurofen per day, that keeps the pain at bay for a few hours but still not enough.

Dont wanna put any clove oil dressing into the wound as its actually healing well and to put something in it would slow the healing process, I just want a good pain reliever! Thanks !

my sympathies... dry socket is horrible. It lasts for a set amount of time.... same pain level and then it stops rather than fades gently. I saved pain relief for bedtime and found the oil of cloves good... be careful with and DILUTE. Soak a small gauze pad size of tooth with water and just put one drop. Time can be 10 days or three weeks max, My experience anyway as had it twice.

I had 3 wisdom teeth out last week,I was given tylex and Difene (75mg twice daily)
in my opinion the Difene work very well because when I didn't take them I was in a lot more pain.
Talk to your Doctor/Dentist before taking anything else though

Thanks for the info, 3 weeks? Mother a God! Im exactly 1 week in today and I have barely slept, missed 2 days work and on the maximum amount of pain relief, more worried about my general health and liver :/

Might go to see an actual doctor tomorrow, see if he can prescribe me something safer but a little harder hitting :D

I think it helps to have a name for condition (they argue as to exact cause)....not to be worried and that it is 'self limiting', it is a matter of some exposed nerve healing over.

Yes I would hesitate to take drugs 24/7 hence oil of cloves got me thru the day... that and 'lying low'. I did go back to one of dentists and had the site cleaned with saline jet I believe and then the gauze with cloves was applied. It was reassurance too that nothing else amiss.

Take heart that it will end. And then it is done but be mindful of same for future extractions. I think mine lasted 10 or 12 days.

Neurofen Plus is good for dental pain as I have discovered. The small bit of codeine gives it the extra kick.

I had one dry socket this year and tbh nothing worked for pain relief! Was prescribed some anti-inflammatories and was also taking nurofen plus and some solpadol my grandmother gave me. Just had to wait about a week for the pain to go really.
