I would recommend you cut back on the editing.

The 1st shot is crooked and there's nothing really interesting catching my eye.

The 2nd shot is ruined because of the "grunge" editing and there's nothing catching my eye.

The 3rd shot is ok nothing really catching my eye either. It seems a bit soft.

The 4th shot again is ruined by the editing. Is that the aviva? I've seen it hundreds of times before.

The 5th shot I actually quite like. I don't like the editing but the composition is nice. Shame about the building site protruding from the bottom left.

I think you need to work on taking photos of things that have something eye catching or at least pleasing to the eye.

Just looking to get advice on my pictures i took the other day,

Advice? - Keep your horizons level. Go easy on the clarity slider. Don't add silly effects for no good reason. Try pick something to focus on rather than just a general overall view. Keep taking pictures......

I have to admit the editing is a bit.. well there is way too much and it really takes away from viewing the images properly. Also what kind of camera did you use? and where did you shoot from? - just curious.

    1. far too crooked and that takes away from a quick glance. also the focusing seems a little off on the left side of the frame? just before the DART bridge. it also seems to be lacking in colour, I know dublin can be very grey but I'd have bumped up the saturation a little.

    2. the grunge and brush effects ruin it completely. I'm sure without them it would look more appealing to the eye. is that a moonlight filter too?

    3. the ferryman shot is okay but the stairs at the dock are a little distracting, the center lamppost slightly distracts the eye too.

    4. this one is isn't too bad though again the filter or brush effects kind of smother the original image, it too looks under saturated and could use a little colour.

    5. probably the best of the bunch, I'm a sucker for shots of pigeon house and poolbeg. the frame however is too big and the side of the building on the left intrudes on the overall image.

All in all they are not bad for someone starting out but I'd avoid filters/brushes and concentrate on naturally letting the picture tell its own story, if its interesting enough it won't neither brushes or filters.

Oh and check out pix.ie or flickr.com as a good place to host your images for free, most users on here either use one or the other - some use both. :)

The first one is obviously very crooked but it has a miniature look to it something like using a tilt shift lens. As does the ferryman picture. Is that just a blur effect from Post Processing? I like that effect, makes me feel like a giant.

the last photo would have looked better if everything was in focus and it was brighter.

I hate all the poolbeg shots! Not because they're bad technically but because I've seen them so many times before from the same angle. I've never seen it from that point of view so it works for me.

I agree with above post. If they had taken pic from different angles then the pic's are looking good enough.

I'd guess they were taken from the National Convention Centre.

@buffalo - ah okay that makes sense, I can see right through the window of a friends apartment on the 4th picture. I'll have to tell him to keep his curtains closed a lot more for fear of zoom lens lol :)
