    Hi Guys

I am looking to join on a 5day one of the above , be interested if anybody had any opinion on them. Or any other similar priced Dublin south

Mainly course, winter condition, green condition, keeping interest playing weekly, atmosphere etc.

    Thanks guys.

I'm a member of Grange Castle.

They run a midweek competition during the summer, so you would have some competitive golfing the summer months.

Pretty sure that this year they also let the 5 day members play in the medals, think they run them on a Tuesday of the same week the medal is on.

Catleknock is probably a more polished course and would definitely have a better club house. Theres no kitchen in GC.

The lads running grange castle, as well as the members are all nice guys in my experience and its usually playable through most of the winter. Theres usually a bit of banter in the clubhouse.

Course is usually in fairly good nick, given they get a lot of casual/society golf out at the weekends. Greens are not the fastest you'll play on. The rough can be fairly punishing, and they seem to have let it grow out in some parts of the course this year.

I think in a few years it'll be a lovely course. They've done a lot of planting, especially on the back 9 in recent years. Once it has matured the back 9 will be a pretty solid test of your golf.

    Hope that helps

Do Grange Castle and Castleknock not vary a lot in price? I would have thought you would have almost got 7 day membership in GC for the price of 5 in Castleknock.

I would rate Castleknock as the best of the 3 and GC (used to be a member) as second. Course and winter condition good in both, greens better in Castleknock, not sure what you mean by "keeping interest playing weekly" and never hung around long enough for atmosphere in either.
No real clubhouse in GC, just proshop with coffee/sandwiches. That said, for the bigger comps, GC do throw in steak or burger and a few beers for free.

I'm a 5 day member in Castleknock and i think it's a very well priced package given the quality of the course. I've played Elmgreen and GrangeCastle and there IMO CKnock is a cut above in terms of the design & condition of the course and the clubhouse facilities. Having said that i'd imagine the CKnock fees are quite a bit higher.

The only problem with CKnock is that the midweek open competitions finish very early with the last tee off at 4:00. This makes it difficult to get out for GUI counting events during the week. Its a bit odd when most other courses have their last tee times at 5.30/6 at this time of year.

    Hope this helps.

the greens in grangecastle don't even compare to the greens in castleknock.
