Social welfare, what am I entitled to?

I'm going in to make a fresh claim tomorrow morning and was wondering if anyone could tell me how much I'd be entitled to and if it might go up.

    I'm 19
    Living with my single mother
We are currently having difficulty paying the mortgage and have had to take in a lodger.

My friend and I both want to move out.
We are both 19 and are looking at shared houses with two spare rooms to rent.
We'd most likely want to move out around the time she starts college.

Would whatever I'm getting be increased if I'm no longer living with my mother?

If you are on Jobseekers Allowance, your maximum rate does not increase just because you move out, although your mother's income will no longer be taken into account. As a 19 year old, your maximum rate of Jobseekers Allowance is 100 Euro/week, unless one of the exceptions applies to you - for details of exceptions see here - http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/unemployed_people/jobseekers_allowance.html#l62fd2

If you can get assessed by your local authority as having a housing need, then you could also claim rent supplement, provided that your rent is within the limits, see here for more information http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/supplementary_welfare_schemes/rent_supplement.html#l62fd2

Hi, I have a question. I'm on jobseekers allowance with my partner. Is it possible to get jsa divided so each of us can collect the money because only one of us is allowed to collect it each week?

Yes you can both make a claim but you will still only receive the max amount for a couple and you will both have to collect your own money from post office and you will both have to sign on each month and be available and looking for full time work.

You could request split payments on the one claim. Or you could have 2 separate claims, then you would each get half. In either case you will each have to collect your own payment each week, one will not be able to collect the others.

You're the messed up one not the government. You could go to a Community Welfare Officer to discuss your issues, but you may not have much success either. The rules for assistance are being tightened all the time and the under-25s are being hit worst. Failing success with the CWO, your other options are Citizen's Information & V de P. You could also approach MABS and ask them to assist in negotiating the level of contribution towards your children. There was a rule at one stage that anyone on the basic level of Supplementary Welfare Allowance could not be asked/forced to contribute toward the children. But that seems to be lost in the mire.

Rule 3. Please be tactful when replying to posts, remember that people are here to seek advice and may be in a very difficult personal situation. Any advice given should be mature, constructive and non-abusive. Excessive sarkiness & bullying will not be tolerated.

    Good night.

To be fair your snide reply to a person asking for advice caused the thread to descend in to a cluster ****.
