Work placement year?

I'm in receipt of a grant usually (full adjacent rate), but next year I'm doing a work placement year. I've only just found out that rather than deferring my 3rd year, I'm just extending my course to 4 years, leaving me liable to the registration fee.

My problem is, even with work placement, I can't really afford this. Is there any way I can get the grant while on work placement year? I don't even want to receive any money, I just can't afford the €2500+ for the registration fee.

Is this considered a field trip. I know that there is allowances for field trips.

I think the grant may pay for this based on the rules

    (3) Where a student is required to participate in an off-campus placement
as an integral part of an approved undergraduate or postgraduate course, a
maintenance grant may continue to be paid where the period of off-campus
placement does not extend the normal duration of the approved course.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
