    Hi folks,

Do any of you know of a website that plays live GAA sporting events? I'm not aware of any. Is there such a site? a free one? My google searches only yield loads of spam.

Or maybe I need to contact my local cable TV provider. (I live in Philadelphia, btw)

    Thanks!

And btw, i read the FAQ. And i don't believe this post is in violation of them. Forgive me if i'm overlooking anything. (I've been a mod on another forum and i try to be very respectful of those stepping up for "the thankless job.")

    regards

the only guaranteed legal online way of watching is via setanta
    http://setanta-i.com/
at a saucy 20dollars PER GAME.

suggesting anything else (aside from a dedicated slingbox) could be considered as violating setanta ownership of the worldwide rights to the GAA championship games, and when they are charging 20 dollars per game thats a lot for them to loose by folks circumventing their service.

NOTE: using slingbox IS ok as it is legally considered "placeshifting" and the device is deliberately limited to proving 1 outgoing signal to ensure its not thought of as broadcasting.
Interestingly, a US court a few months back found that even pubs using a slingbox arent breaking any law,

Wow!!! Brilliant post!!! Thank you, Munchkin!!!

    Good information!

Btw, i admin, mod and help run another Irish forum. And I'll fully envy the webtraffic and member participation that you have here. Envy in a "covet thy neighbor's wife" kinda way.

As i don't have a "slingbox" i'll contact my local cable company.

    thanks again

the slingbox needs to be installed in Ireland at say a friend or relatives house. Your local cable company has nothing to do with it.
You can buy them on amazon uk or USA for about 130 dollars for the sling solo or more for the slingbox pro HD which has an internal digital terrestrial decoder.

All a slingbox does is send a video signal over the internet to your laptop/ iphone/ ipad/ "slingcatcher" unit so you will need to either connect it in Ireland to a sky box or saorview box for a Slong Solo or get the "slingbox HD Pro" which you simply plug an aerial into allowing you to watch Irish channels anywhere in the world.

Its VERY reliant on a good internet connection where you have it installed in Ireland. I have mine in the back end of Cavan with quite bad internet upload speeds so for football or hurling its so blurry its more like radio with moving blobs!

Still, for the Euro Championships its perfectly ok for following the half time comments from the RTE panel after watching the game in HD on german telly.

I'm nothing but grateful for the info.

But FYI, and the for anyone else interested, that site gives an "error message" to me.

"THE CHANNEL THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO WATCH IS ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND"

    Hi folks,

If anyone is interested i'll mention that there is a wonderful Irish Club fairly close to me, just outside the city.

But the police there are beyond vigilant. I am a big fan of almost all Philadelphia police that i've met. But in this other town they are murder.

I know a fellow that was pulled over for a small corner window of his work truck -- this was a former marine.

The police officer got him on "Driving Under the Influence" because he had smoked marijuana 4 to 6 hours earlier.

I didn't even know that they COULD get you for something like that.

    thanks again folks,

    S

Mod Snip - not sure of legality of posting links.

Requesting a way of circumventing licensing/copyright isn't allowed in the TV forum on here so I don't think it should be allowed on here either, saying that, as we haven't updated the charter (which I will do after discussing with the other mods of course) I will allow it for now.

rte.ie, tv3.ie and tg4.ie all show GAA when it is on their TV, these are normally geolocked (i.e. you can only watch from a certain location), you could try to bypass this by looking for an Irish proxy server, but discussing how to do this on here is against the rules so please don't (feel free to google it), if any members want to help you out they can PM you.

Last time I was in Philli I believe the Boyse Club showed a game, although I was very intoxicated at the time :)

    LOVE IT!!! Thank you Clareman.

As a moderator myself i so much appreciate how you handled that. It much reminds me of a question i had about getting my beater to pass the state auto inspection.

    Hi Clare Man,

Myself and two other moderators of an Irish forum talked of the legality of posting something that may contain copyrighted material. We went back and forth with it. And what we came up with was....

The owner of a website is ultimately responsible for it's content. The owner is NOT responsible for another website's content. Posting a link to another website DOES not obligate a forum owner to incur responsiblity for another website.

So we concluded that if we were NOT hosting a video file containing copyrighted material THEN we were not liable for it.

But then all three of us are native to the US and it's laws. So if you do find anything different i would be very interested to find out.

If you would post publicly or via PM that'd be great.

Again, wish i had more folks like yourself on my forum.

    regards

    skate

No worries Calvin, imvho it's a stupid law and 1 that goes against everything that the internet is about, we should be encouraging sharing of information, not going after those that try to help others, but we have to operate within the law.

Boards.ie is governed by the law of Ireland and SOPA goes after sites that share information on how to circumvent laws, even hosting a link could technically be against the law, as boards are still seeking clarification on this we the mods are erring on the side of caution in regards to dealing with sharing of information.

    Thank you!!!

And this is truly great forum that you're a part of. I'm at a loss for words.

EDIT: Right now i am removing links from our forum so as not to have any questionable content -- removing any potential issue for our forum's owner.

And i should thank you on behalf of him also. You are helping me help my forum's owner.

EDIT again: I'm sending a link to this thread to my fellow mod because i'm very impressed with how well you handled it.

I presume the OP knows that the GAA highlights show "The Sunday Game" is available worldwide on the RTE player every Wednesday till the next Sunday :
    http://www.rte.ie/player/#s=search&q=sunday

Also, on the 6 and 9 o clock news you'll normally get a VERY short excerpt from the main games of the day

    Hey guys,

Thanks again for all of your help!

I have found a certain website. And i am very happy with it's content rolleyes.gif

But now this website is asking that i download an application to watch the content.

Is this application safe to download? Does anyone want to send a Private Message to me.

Moderators: Thanks again for your advice. Very helpful. Forgive me if i'm being overly vague with this question.

    regards

    Skate

I wouldn't install a standalone player to watch anything illegal online, bit like the illegal movie downloads that ask you to get a codec for $14.99 to watch the movie, but this isn't a techie forum.

    Hi Clareman,

    Thanks so much responding.

I found something that suited my needs very well. I am quite content. And i did not download any file or install any "app" or application.

Anyone is welcome to send a PM to me if they're interested.

thanks again to you guys for being a big help,

    skate

Furthermore, if this is too techie, off topic or whatever, by all means please delete my post if you wish.
