I am not sure if you are interested in legal internet streaming services from abroad or legal english speaking satellite services from abroad?

Which are you looking for and what sorts of channels are you interested in (sport/music/films) etc.

Sky on a dreambox cost exactly the same as sky on a skybox.

The Satellite TV choices in Ireland are limited. Generally there is the free channels and Sky for pay channels.

If you ask in the Foreign Satellite section you can find some subscription packages from non UK suppliers which may be good for some sports if money is tight.

In general if you want pay TV via Satellite then Sky is the only real option for 99% of people. One way to reduce your Sky cost is wait until you are out of contract (after the first year) and then haggle like hell. Tell them you are going to get FreeSAT + HD and a Saorview recording box and you cannot justify the monthly charge. If you go as far as leaving they will continue to contact you with better offers.

Have a look at all Sky's packages and decide which ones you can live without, or which ones you can drop for a few months at least.

A sky+HD box is better than a dreambox for pay channels.

If you can get UPC MMDS in your area (ring them on 1908) that may work out cheaper.

I don't have much to add to this thread except I can't think of one way a SkyHD box is better than a Dreambox. Older images had an inferior EPG but not anymore IMO.
