Gold Medals

I recently got my final year results in Mathematics and scored an average of 89 in 4th year. I averaged 70 in 3rd year and maths is a 50:50 split, so I averaged 79.5 overall. The criteria for a gold medal is 80 or higher.
So I'm just wondering is it possible to get exams from 3rd year looked at a year later as I think there may be a couple that I could have done a small bit better in to push up my score to 80

You can always ask, but I don't you'll have any luck with the 3rd year papers. They may say that the time for looking at those ones was last summer when those results came out. Also, it's possible that they won't have the scripts any more - I think the retention period for exam scripts is 13 months (but maybe longer when results count towards your final mark the following year).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in most (all?) departments, exam marks aren't black and white. Exam boards meet and make decisions on whether to bump students' marks up, adjust marks based on the average performance of students in exams/difficulty of exams, in cases of being extremely close to a higher grade etc. .

If you were .5% off a gold medal, my intuition tells me that the exam board will have discussed adjusting your mark and decided against it.

Ah right, kind of what I was expecting really, I guess it's hardly the end of the world, thanks for the replies

I remember being told that your exam papers are kept on file for 18 months OP, but I've no idea how accurate that is. Honestly, if I was 0.5% off, I'd go check them. Of everyone you should be able to spot calculation errors fairly quickly!

Congrats on a great result by the way.
