    Hi folks,
have a Lenovo laptop, about 6 months old, only use it for Skype and a few other social networks.

Had some visitors recently and they used it to check, e-mail, web sites etc.
It was not shut down properly, and now it wont start up.
Its on Windows 7, and I can put in the password, and then it takes an age to open up.

It appears something is open and using all the memory slowing it down dramatically,
I can get into Task Manager, very slowly but can't see any applications.

In processes there are 33 processes open, using 17% of memory, the biggest one is csrss. exe 5,040K

Any suggestions, in plain English please, as I am stupid at Computers

    thanks

Start the pc in safe mode (hold down F8 on start up)run a malware scan when she starts.

Thanks for that. I started up in safe mode, but do not have any malware programme installed, I do have AVG and ran a scan but no change.
Also tried restoring the computer to a date prior to the visitors using it, but nothing
They may have used a dongle in the laptop, so I am guessing that may have been infected

    any other thoughts

    thanks

    Again, many thanks,

OK did all that, it found 34 Adware threats, and deleted them.

No Change still booting at a snails pace.

Windows R type in regedit press enter, go into start up and delete everything bar your operating system start up, restart and that should sort out your problem.

I am presuming you mean "msconfig" rather than "regedit". To the op, do not mess with regedit unless you know what your doing or don't mind killing your windows install.

I think the above post was meant to read......

Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialogue box. (Windows key generally located between Ctrl and Alt, has a windows flag symbol on it)

Type in "msconfig" and click ok

Go to the "Startup" tab. This lists all the programs that run when your pc starts up. Go through the list and disable anything you do not need and keep an eye out for names that look randomly generated as these are probably viruses. Disabling programs here does not uninstall them, just stops the running immediately after booting in to windows.

When finished click Apply and then Ok and restart the pc.

I beg your pardon, that's what I meant. Thanks. That should work.
