Remote Working

    Hello,

I work in Web Design, I'm based in Dublin and our company head office and test server are based down the West.

I'm just trying to streamline my working process. I use an open source application called Aptana ( based on Eclipse ) to develop with. This has internal FTP capabilities, so when I save a file it automatically saves on the server in the head office.

The only thing I find annoying is when I want to promote the latest changes to a live site, I have to FTP them down from the Test Server to my local machine and then FTP them up to the actually live server. This is time consuming and unproductive.

I'm just wondering if anyone could suggest an alternative way around this.

We've tried setting up a VPN initially, but had some trouble and never really had the time to try and fix it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you promoting changes directly to the LIVE site as soon as you make them? Surely you would be making local changes, do testing and then promote the changes to production?

No, all code is developed and tested on Test Server based in the Head Office.

    Ah now I understand!

You could have an automated script to push the changes from the Test server directly to the Live environment?

    This tool looks handy: http://www.scriptftp.com/
    I haven't tried it though.

have you tried teamviewer to remotely control your test server?

you could then log in remotely to the test server from home and ftp them up directly from there.
