Ive been reading threads and searching sites for the past few weeks trying to decide what equipment to buy. I think the following looks decent, if anyone thinks I should make any changes or knows where I can get stuff cheaper it would be appreciated. Not sure which bench to get either.

    100kg Rubber Barbell Kit

    Pair of olympic dumbbells

Bench from powerhouse or Bench from Irish Lifting
what are you going to be using it all for?

Bench press, deadlifts, maybe get a rack or squat stands at some stage, havent decided on an exact program yet.

Mainly for getting stronger and keeping fit for football etc, no intentions of bulking up or anything like that.

If you're going to be using it for deadlifts you might want to go for more weight. The option you linkied to is for 80kg of plates and a 20kg bar. For deadlifting you'll outgrow the 100kg in a few months if not sooner (depending on your starting condition)

They are dumbell handles that take olympic plates. Plates that have a 50mm diameter centre hole.

No collars are mentioned with the dumbbells, so you might need to get them if not included.
    This Bodymax 100kg Olympic rubber radial barbell kit consists of 7ft bar and collars, 2 x 15kg, 2x 10 kg , 4x 5kg, 4x2.5kg
You might want a some smaller plates for the dumbbells so you can have smaller increments of change.

Yeah well I was thinking I could pick up a couple of 20kg plates in a few months.
Can't really afford much more at the moment.

Good point I'll check if collars are included when I'm ordering.
Yeah I'll need to pick up some 1.25s alright I'd say.

im thinking of getting an olympic set myself,
my lifts are based around bench, deadlifts and squats

building a gym in the shed at home.(some day soon)
if i get a few 4x 1.25 and 4x 2.5 weights i can use them for presses etc
with 2 olympic dumbells and collars

id prob get a 200kg set
would they be very bulky and awkward? for shoulder press and flys etc?

i was looking at that bowflex thing id like to try it before i bought ive seen mixed reviews.

    any advice appreciated.

Don't buy the bowflex - breakdown over time. Dumbbell handles then add on what you like

We bought a large shipment of gear from powerhouse. I know you hear mostly good reports but I would never use them again. Apart from messing up our order, sending stuff we didn't order and refusing to take it back etc we had to threaten legal action to get it sorted. This was a €20k order by the way.

Those weight discs are the worst I have ever used. They crack and break with the slightest drop. The bars bend at weights below their rating. I just don't rate them as a company from our experience.

Our best dealings have been with strength shop uk and D8fitness in Dublin. The former doing excellent starter packages and the latter great for kettlebells, rings, bumpers and good 7ft bars.

Im sure many people will report good things re powerhouse but I definitely wouldn't recommend their gear or their company.

    That's not good to hear.

Powerhouse are so much cheaper than the others when you use the 10% off code and the 10% through fatcheese.

Would the rubber plates be more durable than the iron ones maybe?

Looking at 640 for something like the above off Irish Lifting, only about 480 from Powerhouse.

Even Irish Lifting are in for some customer complaints at the moment.

I would give a big +1 to Strength Shop UK. You can turn it into a road trip.
Rent a van, get a few lads and go on the piss on the ferry and in Scotland before picking up the gear :)
