Shipped a large envelope of thickness no more than 24mm/25mm weighing 180g to Dublin recently .

Paid large envelope postage of €1.50 as per An Post tariff .

Now a week later the eBayer claims that the item has not arrived .

I understand that if the item was say, a depth of 26mm that An Post would consider it to be a package costing €3.00.

What I would like to know is this :

If me , or indeed the post office clerk , underestimated the postage , will An Post still deliver the item , or what happens .?

Note that there is no ' return to sender ' label on the envelope

    Its either
1 - the ebayer is telling lies
2 - the address was written very poorly and cannot be read by the machines.
3 - the envelope has gone missing

1.50 for 180g lge envelope is correct.

You'll get away with 30mm (the size limit ensures it fits through all standard letterboxes and therefore no time wasted by ringing bell) and about 10g over weight.

a lesson I've learned from Ebay over the years is ...use registered postage every time (if you dont the seller will/can receive it but can easily say they didn't...and you have no proof of delivery)

Possibly, but just delayed. You should have had your own address on the back, without that there's no way for them to return it, and it could end up in a pile of undeliverable mail somewhere in the GPO.

The bottom line is you have no way to know what's happened to it, and you probably have no choice but to re-send or refund the buyer.

It could be a eBay liar - thats a possibility

We always do a label in size 20 font , so it was easily read .

From what Jorel said , the GPO put undeliverable mail aside which may have happened too.

Once upon a time , if postage was under-stamped , An Post would still deliver and charge the receiver the price difference plus an admin fee .

This size envelope is €1.50 normal and €7.90 registered , so it don't really pay to register .
Have had many many of this size delivered through-out the 26 counties without a problem before.
