Which country in your opinion is the most loved globally?

If I were to guess I'd say Canada was number 1. They just seems so nice and dont seem to have a problem with any country, and no country seems to have any problems with them either bar the american candian friendly rivalry.

Maybe Australia or New Zealand, again neither engage much in world affairs and those countries and their people seem to be generally very nice and well liked.

Well you mighnt think it but Id say Ireland is definitely 4th place after canada,nz and oz. The irish are so well liked all over the world I just think theyve got to get 4th place. The only reason I wouldnt put us first is because of the rivalry with britain throughout history and the troubles in the north and all that. But other than the uk and northern ireland Id say were the most well liked country on the planet which is good :)

Except the Chinese and Koreans, who really hate Japan for WWII.

I don't think Ireland is as well liked as we'd like to believe. The arrogance associated with the celtic tiger era, cringey statements like "everyone loves the Irish", and the sheer ignorance of some Irish abroad isnt doing us any favours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,573 ✭✭✭pragmatic1

Can't really be considered a nation but I'd say Native Americans are pretty much universally liked.

Walked past a bum with a bunch of Irish J1 heads in the states years ago and he heard the foreign accents and shouted at us

"Hey guys, what's the best nation on earth?"

when we shrugged our shoulders at us, he thrusted out his coin jar in our direction and said "Do-nation!" (we had to give him money after that)

I would say the Bahamas is a runner. Has anyone anything bad to say about them?

You can rule any reasonably large or powerful country out of this, as they definitely have pissed someone off at some stage.

Definitely not Ireland. With so many Irish people emigrating these days, we're rather ruining the romanticised leprechaun image with the harsh ugly truth :pac:. Plus, Australians feicin' hate us these days.

Everyone seems to love Japanese culture though, so I agree with Japan. I don't think anyone has strong enough opinions on Canada to make it the most well loved country. It's just sorta, there. :pac:

A quote from Robert Newman's "History of Oil":
Guy 1: America is a unifying country, it seems that the the only thing that unifies the rest of the world is hatred of us!
Its like you all started your own country called "the rest of the world"
Guy 2: We did, we even got our own flag
Guy 1: Oh really? Whats that?
Guy 2: Same as yours, but on fire!

    On topic, everyone loves Spain.

I think you're very wrong to be honest,I'm after doing a good bit of travelling and am currently living in Switzerland and the amount of people who hold the Irish and Ireland in high regard has astounded me.
Also my bosses hire Irish workers where possible as they are seen as very hard working.funnily enoughy they also said they'd never hire Americans as the only try too look busy and actually get very little done.

Ireland surely. Everyone loves the Irish, except maybe the Aussies who are probably sick of us at this stage.

I really have to agree with Japan there. After the tsunami destroyed large portions, everybody helped each other and there was no reported cases of looting. Compare that to what happened following Hurricane Katrina. You really have to respect the Japanese for that.

Nah, Australians just hate W@nkers, mostly the Irish are very well liked in Oz. Just that your more likely to be told it in Australia, every country has quota of W@nkers to deal with though.
