Personal Training at the Ben Dunne Gyms

    Hi there,

I'm a member of the Carlisle gym in Kimmage. They have posters all over the place advertising €25 for a session with a personal training.

I booked myself in for a free trial last week to find out a bit more about it and the guy talked me through it and then ended up saying it's actually €50 per session.

I asked why it was this price when it was advertised differently on the posters and he said that €25 relates to training only and to incorporate your fitness assessment, programme design, nutritional advice, weigh-ins etc, it's actually €50.

I'm a bit narked but am at the stage where I really want to have some personal training sessions to put me on the straight and narrow. Anyone else had this experience?

The way he is describing it, it should be 50quid for the first session and then maybe for the 6week markers when changing routine/checking stats. Any other sessions would simply be training which he should be giving to you at the advertised price.

It's an average rate in fairness even at 50, would just be a bit pissed off with the way it's advertised.

While €50 isn't expensive for an hour with a PT, the shady way of roping in clients would immediately set off alarm bells with me; if not for the quality of the PT in question, certainly for the integrity of same. Spend the money on someone else who you can get a good recommendation for imo.

Yep. I remember seeing a sign in a Ben Dunne's gym for some PT. He offered fat spot reduction. Says it all really.

I'm in Energie Fitness, they have free pt's, well they're included in your fee anyway! I've given up on them though as the trainers started to come and go so now I try just search online for my own stuff. To be honest as someone else said, look around and find a PT from outside of your gym as they're probably better value.

The PT was offering something that is anatomically impossible, spot fat reduction.

That's a bit sh1t. The posters say 25e per hour, rather than per "session" don't they?

Mind you I'd hate to see the trainers that have been there for years being done over by BD.

Personally I'd go to an independent PT with great reviews rather than the regular gym ones. Could be a bit of travel but I've only heard good things about The Edge in Clontarf.

I've used one of their trainers in Westpoint and I was told €25 per hour all in. It was new policy put in place by Big Ben...Found him to be excellent!

I'm a member of Ben Dunne Gym in Carlisle and I train twice a week with a personal trainer and It's only €25 per hour.(GREAT VALUE AND A GREAT TRAINER!) Also, my boyfriend is in Westpoint in Blanchardstown and it's only €25 for him too. I get measurements and dietary advice off them and my programmes are included too. That's strange, I would speak with management if you were quoted wrongly. Good Luck

Just been to Westpoint and enquired about the PT situation . The receptionist told me it's €25 per hour ALL IN like I said! The same goes for ALL Ben Dunne Gyms. There's no catch and anybody who is quoted a different price should let management know so they can address it. :)

Mate, I'm just back from a €25 session with one of the trainers in Carlisle. He said someone must be having you on. Check it out again.. On a better note, my body fat is down to 11.3%! Roll on single figures and the holiday!

Anyone else a bit scooby doobious about what's going on here?

Aside from the fact that tommyguns is either a woman with 11% bodyfat or it's a guy using his girlfriends' email address to sign up to boards with?

    Shill-tastic.

And on another note you get what you pay for. I'd be more than a little scooby-doobious about a 25 PT session to be quite honest.
