Need help deciding

    Hi,

I need help deciding between two cars, I've whittled the choices down to a 2011 Octavia Combi 1.2 TSI or a 2012 Ceed SW Elite 1.6 CRDi. Both cars are fairly similar in terms of what you get, large boot space (very important, and i know the Octavia's is bigger) parking sensors, bluetooth, Dual Zone air con and so on, Overall I feel the Ceed is slightly better kitted than the Octavia, the Ceed has a alarm and ESP which the Octavia doesn't have, but of the features they share I think the Octavia's are designed better, the boot is bigger, full size spare wheel, parking sensor has a visual display, Radio is better, bluetooth phone control is better, with the Ceed you can only dial out the last number dialed. Overall the Octavia feels a better built car.

The Octavia has 18K on the clock, but I noticed a few small issues with it, there is a small dent in the roof and the stone guard was cracked while these are small issues they are putting question into my mind on how the car was treated in the last 12 months, it was driven by a rep(s) associated with the garage. The Octavia has a 11 months manu warranty left and the garage will include another year on that. The Ceed is a pre-reg and never been driven and has the remainder of it's 7 year warranty, which is a big draw.

The Octavia is coming in €750 cheaper than the Ceed. We plan to keep the car for around 5 years, motor tax is the same for both. We do relatively low millage, maybe 10K KM per year, So boardies please help me decide which car to buy.

    Thanks
    N.

If the Ceed's warranty covers the DMF, I'd go for it. Skoda has a 2 year warranty doesn't it? 1 year left.

    Octavia for that mileage.

Someone here contacted Kia about this during the week and they do cover it apparently..

I'd go for the ceed. The 1.6 crdi engine is a peach.

I don't know how you have it narrowed down to just 2 particular cars though.

If dpf is covered on the ceed I would go for it.

Dpf's aren't known to be a common complaint on them anyway, they've had dpf from launch as far as I know.

    Thanks for the replies.

Rocky I was told all parts are covered in the warranty excluding consumables, tyres, oil, brakes and so on.

Colm I've looked into a lot of different cars, but based on our budget and what we want in a car these two filled all the boxes. We need an estate as we've a second baby on the way and need the room for carrying all the extra crap around with us, we keep our buggy in the car and that takes up a lot of space, it currently fills my entire boot, if my budget could stretch I'd probably go for a i40 but that's a little too much for us.

    Thanks again for the replies.

The octavia is a big car for such a small engine and as you are intent on keeping it for a good while i would be concerned about future issues. Would i be right in saying that is the old model ceed ? If so i hope your getting a good discount . Would you consider dropping back a year and see could you get a octy 1.6 diesel, my brother has one and they are a far nicer drive than the 1.2 petrol. Im no expert and dont claim to be, this is just my humble opinion and best of luck with whichever you choose, just remember at the end of the day you will be the one driving it and living with day to day , not any of us on here ;)

If you're looking at ceed, surely an i30 is worth a look? Same care, less warranty but nicer inside?
