05 Touareg - new brake discs and pads

    Hi all,

I've been told that the discs and pads on my 05 Touareg need replacing. I knew the pads would be due for replacement but didn't expect to hear the discs themselves needed replacing also :(

Can someone give me an idea of what it should be costing me to get this job done? I'll be using a local independent garage not a VW one but would like to manage my expectations before I get the bad news from them

Ring them and ask for a price before you get the work done? I dont know anything about the touareg but a lot of vws had different sized disks/pads depending on engine size/power. If you are anyway handy with a spanner its not a very hard job to do yourself. Loads of guides knocking about on the internet.
I recently replaced the rear disks and pads on my mondeo. Took me about an hour and a half. Disks were 50 for the pair and a set of pads was another 30. Fronts will be more expencive.

Parts per axle your looking around €150-€200 for a set of discs and around €40-€60 for pads depending on the brand. Might be 30 mins job to fit, perhaps €50 to €100 in labour.

It depends on what engine is in your Touareg. If it is one of the larger engined versions then it will have the 4 piston Brembo calipers and you won't see much change out of €1000 for front and rear discs and pads.

Thanks lads, I have the bog standard 2.5L TDi so hopefully it won't nbreak the bank. I guess for front and back I'm not going to get much change out of €500. Glad I didn't go to Poznan now!!

Why are you guessing at all? You should have the price from the garage for your approval before they fit any parts.

I just wanted to get a ball park here so I could compare it to the garage quote.
