Hi can anyone help please

My car key opens the door when it feels like and u could be 10 mins pushing the door open button on the key

If I use the key in the door the alarm goes off

is this an e46? it means the battery is dying. you need a new key or if you could mod-change the battery.

if an e90, im not sure, i think you can change the battery easily

The battery in the key of the E90 recharges every time you put it in the ignition. Not sure if it is the same with the E46.

Either way, whatever model, take your car, key(s), and log book, and I.D. to your nearest BMW dealer. Order a new coded key, it should take no more than a week to arrive, and about €30. It will save you a lot of hassle in the long run...

I think it's in the region of 130/150 eur for a new E46 key. There is little that can be done if the battery is dead : the key cannot be dismantled 'elegantly' (it can but it's a delicate operation of cutting, soldering and glueing - it's quite well documented on the www but it looks like a lot of work/hassle).

I also think that BMW can only re-issue a total something like a total of 7 keys for chassis number. After that, it's a new locking system ... :O

I recently paid 240 eur for a new E61 key. That said, maybe the battery can be changed on this type of key.

It's about 200 euro by the time you pay a technican to code in your new key. If it's an e46, and you know someone handy with a soldering iron, you can replace the rechargeable battery. It's just a battery inside, and they do die after a certain number of charge cycles, but it's a much better fix than just getting a 200 euro key.

When the alarm goes off, stick the key in the ignition and turn it on - it should knock it off.

It could be your CEM module, if you have a second key check that it's working. If the fault is present with both keys, it's probably your CEM module but these can be bought 2nd hand and fitted.
