Hi...myself and my partner are going on a cheap sun holiday to lanzarote via ryanair of course! Am shocked though at the cost of checking in bags online as i looked at the online reservations earlier...60euro each plus another 60euro for services...it's crippling our fares big time:/

We are seriously thinking of abandoning bringing any luggage bar our tiny hand luggage and buying a few items when out there...

Mad cost or go for it??!

How long are you going for??
The cost of 'buying a few things' could end up more expensive than paying for a bag.

Personally, id book one bag, mainly things you cant take on the plane, and anything youd take home from lanzarote.

wear loads of clothes on the plane! I'm off to Munich next weekend for a couple of days so won't need much clothes but I'm bringing gifts that will take up a fair bit of room. I'll be sweltering in the heat on the plane!

Also, can I bring toothpaste in hand luggage? Probably not I'd say. I can buy deodorant over there etc. Just annoying.

I agree with that. My brother and his wife spent a week in Tenerife and all they took was the max size cabin bag each. They bought all their toiletries out there. My sister in law left her hair dryer, hair straightener & her normal size big bag of make up tricks at home, and went for a more "au natural" look when she was out there.

She also brought just a couple of pairs of sandals, one casual/beachy pair & one more dressy up for evenings, as opposed to bringing one pair to match every single outfit. She also pared down her clothes to just a few basic items that she could mix and match, and were easy to rinse out and dry overnight if they got more than one wear. They both wore their heaviest hoodies & jeans & shoes on the plane so that they wouldn't have to pack them.

It all worked out fine for them, but I guess it depends on just how much of a pack rat you are when you go away & how much every day stuff you are willing to do without. Planning is the key too, as you can't just toss everything into your bag in case you'll need it.

you can easily enjoy a week with only hand luggage, liquids being the only problem. just buy sunscreen and toothpaste out there!
