Watching the Germany v Portugal game now on Saorview and it doesn't look very HD to me.

LOL, I bet everyone who reads the OP does it in the same D4-ish accent.

I mean yea, WTF happened, All my terrestrial channels just DIED about 10 mins ago in the middle of the match FFS Araggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

    Thank Dog for RTE player!

For me, the HD DOG didn't look as sharp as it has on other HD broadcasts I've seen on the channel. Was trying to compare it with BBC One HD on Freesat but probably not a fair comparison.

Missed today's matches but yesterday's RTÉ Two HD coverage looked great here (Three Rock). Also compared picture yesterday with BBC One (Freesat) HD and thought RTÉ Two HD was better.

    Looked fine here.

Remember only the live match is in HD. All the studio stuff including the highlights and analysis is upscaled SD.

I don't really notice the difference.

BTW all RTE2 Euro matches are 'blacked out' via Sky here in NI including RTE2HD coverage. I'm glad I have RTE2HD via an aerial.

Yeah, looks like the whole tournament will be blocked up here! Roll on October 24th.

Done another scan yesterday, now getting signal strength 14, signal quality 0 ! from Clermont Carn. Previously got nothing at all, must have been weather or atmospherics.

I was getting 14% signal quality last night and this morning, is it still like that at your house??

Just took another quick look there now, signal dropped to 9, quality still zero.

To get any way half decent sig. quality, strength would need to be in the range 55 - 60. Depending on what scale you're using I suppose. On my Sony it's of 100. i.e. 9 of 100, pretty poor!

Are the GAA matches blocked out as well?

No definitely not and AFAIK they haven't been for a few years now. The contract with the GAA I guess is both with RTE and BBC and is probably for the whole of the island. A bit similar to Rabo Direct Rugby. RTE hold Euro football rights south of the border while BBC/ITV have rights north of the border.

My tv is still the same, signal level in high 90's and quality less than 14. Contacted rtenl bit no reply.

What is happening? Its bloody annoying now.

If signal strength is the the 90's and quality only in the teens, I'd be inclined to suspect local interference. Some sort of wireless device maybe? That or poor connections somewhere between aerial and receiver.

Aifk work has been done to upgrade one of the studio at RTE to HD for coverage of Euro 2012 and the Olympics.

Quality is about 45% now, and picture fine now. But now, as also reported elsewhere, digital teletext does not work.
Only the old analogue teletext appears??

Nope. As stated earlier, the studio part is upscaled, that was the upgrade. If you look closely (my telly is set to 1 pixel mode) you will see different blank bits at the side of the picture as they cut between cameras in studio never mind the little glitch as they switch over to HD match coverage. Their plans ran askew on treddle as regards upgrading to Hd as they had planned to sell Montrose and move elsewhere (cheaper). Economic collapse scuppered that plan.

They will now gradually upgrade over the next year or so - if they can find the money....
