Its advertised as a fundraiser for the fire and rescue services

    3 routes 30km/60km/100km

heard the 100km comes back across the mountain into the town

starts at the naper arms hotel in Oldcastle 10pm

all 3 routes have foodstops in Castlepollard

cant find any links on the net,its postered locally though

might suit someone preparing for the ring of kerry the following week

Here's some more info on the charity cycle:

The cycle starts at the hotel in town at 10.00.

The 30K goes from Oldcastle to Castlepollard to Collinstown and back to Oldcastle.
The 60K goes from Oldcastle to Mountnugent to Finea to Castlepollard to Collinstown and back to Oldcastle.
The 100K is the same as the 60K but at Collinstown it goes to Delvin to Kells and back to Oldcastle.

Reg. on the day is at 9.30 with a cost of €20 or more if people want.

Feed station will be in Castlepollard for all groups and their will also a backup van for all groups.

I put together these maps on mapmyride.com as I'm familiar the area.

Not 100% sure if these will be the actual routes, I'm checking with the organisers.

    30km
    60km
    100km

My first Charity Cycle and first 100km and as I said in the newbie thread, I'm feeling every bit of it today.

Couple of points on the cycle:

    1. I thought the marshalling was very good throughout, bikers making sure we followed route correctly, apart from my little detour into Kells!

    2. The food station at Castlepollard consisted of an apple and a bottle of water, not exactly what I had in mind! Could have done with more food alright. Thankfully I brought a couple of bananas. I think I need to look into these energy bars/gels for future rides. Or look for events with more food! Mind you there was tea and sandwiches at the end, but could have done with them earlier

    3. I was surprised at the pace, considering this was a charity/leisure cycle. Pace was averaging over 25km/h and was completed in just under 4 hours.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to another long cycle soon!
