Alternatives to Bread

I've been reading through the Stickies and the Nutrition threads for the past couple of weeks - some interesting stuff on here, and some knowledgeable folks too. :) Perhaps you'll have some ideas for me. I've been trying to cut down on bread because it bloats my stomach and makes me lethargic (I have mild IBS) but I'm finding it really hard - partly because I love bread, but also because I don't always feel like I've eaten properly without it. I've managed to wean myself off eating bread with soup and I don't have toast for breakfast anymore, but lunch can be an issue. I'm fine if I bring in food from home (leftovers, salads etc.), but if I don't get a chance to make my own, I end up with a wrap or a sandwich, and a bloated stomach. I've previously tried swapping for oatcakes, but they're like biscuits to me (I just inhale them) and they're rather fattening/salt-heavy.

Those of you who have given up bread; what do you have instead?

    Cheers :)

    I have salad instead.

I always plan my food in advance so I don't end up having to go for a sandwich.

I used to be the exact same. I have salad now with spinach, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, olive oil or bit of dressing and cheese too. It's very filling and you definitely won't go hungry.

I have the same problem, soooo hard to get lunch that doesn't involve bread. I usually go for M&S salads and maybe natural yogurt and fruit.

A great alternative to wraps etc, is to make loads of chilli ( freeze in batches) and wrap it lettuce leaves. So yummy. Though that does require preparation.

Cous cous is really quick to make, it just takes 5 mins in hot water. Add it to your veg or salad if you feel they aren't enough on their own.
