    Hi All,

somehow managed to lose my spare key for my car. Dealers have quoted circa €300 to get another made - anyone have any suggestions for how I might do this on the cheap?

    Thanks

Try a few locksmiths but I vagely remember when I owned a S40 that a replacement key was a dealer job only. Might be different these days. A lost key might also be covered under your insurance policy but this might be defeatist if you have to pay the policy excess.

...got a Saab key cut & coded by Autokey on the Longmile Road last Saturday for €204 inc VAT. Took 45 minutes. Don't think you'll get cheaper than that tbh.

Mind you, if I didn't want a remote fob key (original), just a key cut, with no remote functions, it would have been €90.

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

    this ^^^^

I got an 2003 Almera key done with these. They are cheaper if you just get a normal turn key and not a click. About €80

The S40 isn't an Almera. It has a more complex/secure system. OP, another thread on a similar issue, though it is 2 years old so you might have better luck with a locksmith these days.

Doesn't the S40 have a plastic fob thing? Not a metal key that gets cut? The newer one does anyway.

There is a blade key inside it with a chip.

You can't start the car with the metal blade, its only for glovebox and when your battery dies. You need the plastic fob

Was quoted circa €200 by spirit in sandyford for a c70 replacement which i thought was quite good.
Especially considering they're crazily expensive for most things.

Autokey are decent. Give them a ring and see what the damage is.
