I am worrid about myelf, at 34 years old im worrid because I drink too much and I think I have a problem. I am 22 stone and i drink almost on avergae a bottle of wine every night, as I write this im on my 2nd bottle of wine, I had a bottle last night and the night before. I believe if I could get a handle on my drinking I would lose the weigh because I dont think food is the addiction. I dont believe in AA not because I am not religious but I just dont beliebe in that approach,I would appeciate some advice

you need to go speak to your doctor also I know you said your not religious and thats fine but who say AA wont work for you just find something else to believe in or someone else to talk to, as in a relative that you where close to that is no longer with you.

As for the weight, is there anyway you can take up an activity in the evening like a walking club, swimming etc that gets you out of the house and has you tired so when you get home all you want to do if fall into bed?? therefore havent the energy to be drinking

as stated above, maybe visit your doctor.

Is there any reason as to why you are drinking every night ?

Edit: maybe also join a sport, take up a hobbie, join a gym, or look at other things you could be doing to occupy yourself. This might help to stop the drinking

    Hi OP,

I started a similar thread here some years ago. Like you I was drinking too much and I was worried about it. I didn't go to my doctor or to AA meetings but I did 'get a handle on my drinking' as you put it and life has been much, much brighter ever since. It does take time and it's not easy but you know you have a problem and that's a very big first step.
Have a think about why you are drinking and see if you can deal with any underlying causes. I had some problems back then that were 'driving me to drink' but through some unlikely and fortuitous circumstances at the time I was able to distance myself from these problems and this made stopping [my drinking] and getting on with my life much easier. Prior to that I probably spent about two years gradually cutting down and getting it into my head that the drink was wrecking my life and focusing on what I would be able to achieve as soon as I got out from under the cloud that my alcoholic life had become.
Maybe none of the above is helpful to you but you recognise that you have a problem and that's the point to start from - your new life starts from here.
