Anyone see the lad in jeans and a jacket on a dublin bike heading against the traffic on the m50 hard shoulder from blanch towards the old toll bridge

 Some Dublin Bike users are absolutely terrifying. Where do they get these ideas!

    :D
Nothing surprises me on that road any more. Have come across a guy doing the same around the Tallaght stretch. And of course the same guy nearly weekly on the M11 from Loughlinstown roundabout to Bray

Saw someone last week cycling on the M1 near Newry along the hard shoulder.

Going with the traffic rather than against mind.

In fairness sometimes if you don't know the area the motorway just appears almost out of nowhere. Nearly ended up on it a couple of times myself.

The big blue signs with the "M" on them tend to give it away. :P

As far as I know, that stretch of road is not actually a motorway. Don't know why, just that way it is, I guess.

    really?
It's grade separated its entire length and every junction is heavily signed well in advance. There's no way onto it directly that I can think of without having to negotiate a big obvious junction.

In all fairness, it could be easily done seeing as parts of the N3 are legal to cycle on (the bus lanes). Could be just confusion of roads.

Although cycling against traffic puts that out of question, seems like he's just nuts.

I'm sure he's grand. There's loads of room.

Motorway stops at Dundalk North junction so legal to cycle. That's where I seen the two lads with the Dublin bikes when they were cycling to Warrenpoint couple years ago.

    Still nuts though.

I wouldn't cycle on that road!

All the N3 is legal to cycle on, it's the M3 that you can't.

    Heavily signed? Irish roads? Seriously?

Must have missed the signs when he was cruising the wrong way through the junctions

Likewise, this one has nearly got me a couple of times:

Admittedly, there is this: http://goo.gl/maps/iVgb but that could mean the other road leads to the M50. I'm used to seeing the large blue sign saying "No L driver, no pedal cycles, etc" when joining a motorway.

Not really, perfect road and surface for doing some tt type efforts. As previous poster mentioned the M1 stops and changes to N1 after Dundalk & into Newry. Often you will see groups out cycling along there.

Have to agree that many motorwats here do appear almost out of nowhere but they should have figured it out when they began cycling on it.
