Summons

Got a summons for parking 2 feet into a taxi rank 6mths ago,parked car at 6.30am as work as a chef weather was awful.Anyway returned in the evening to a tower of abuse from a very abusive taximan.Anyway I was wrong in parking where I did and accept that.So just wondering do I not get a fine notice than a summons?:)

Did you just get the summons now for an offence going back six months?

yes got it in post yesterday,the Gardai went to my mothers address as they thought I lived there,so mum gave them my address and phone number.:):)

No the taximan called the Gardai and they issued the summons after 6months have to appear in court later this month.Just thought you are given time to pay the fine by letter and not summons

It all sounds quite nasty alright, it might have been different if you had been caught by the guard and you could have at least explained what happened.

There is something about how if the summons comes more than 6 months after the date of the offence (or when it is filed) it can be struck off. But someone else can advise you on that, and also maybe they are inside the 6 months limit.

At least your mother was sound about it. why did they have to speak to you anyway, can they not just issue the summons to your mother on your behalf? sorry, edit that, they posted it? I thought it had to be in person?

Feel sorry for you, it hasnt happened me yet but it may do

For my summons I was told they can issue a summons or a fixed charge for an offence that doesn't carry penalty points. No idea if that is right but it's what the gardaí told me.

Thanks will look into it,hate having to go to court and lose a days pay,but my own fault in the end.The Guard had the summons in his hand when he called to my mother,when i say posted he put it into my mailbox.Again much appreciate your replies:)

Where is the car registered ? the fine would have gone there and you might not have received it, you are past the 28 days and the 56 days to pay, it goes to court after this.
Talk to the guard and see what he says, tell him you did not receive any fine in the post.

They have to apply for the summons within 6 months of the alleged offence. Not sure how long they have to serve it, but a mate got the summons after 9 months

Thanks for that, I wasn't sure when the 6 months counted from exactly. A long time for it to be hanging over people though.
