    Kinda worried about this.
I'm great at population and all that but I'm so crap at Pysical Geogrpahy, it's funny. Mostly because I couldn't give two ****s about river erosion or glaciers - who actually cares?

I'm hoping that I can avoid Physical Geog at all costs (usually Q4 and Q5 I can avoid it, maybe Q2 or 3) and the Short Questions will just be wild guesses for the Physical stuff. Hopefully the choices come up at the start.

Best of Luck.. Imo, I'd say just have a quick revise over it tonight and you'll be ok. There's a bit of choice on the paper so you should be ok.

Lots of people do. Why do you think it's a popular choice at third level? I suppose river erosion isn't really a major issue. I mean can't we just let them erode. It does no harm. Right?

^^ I just don't think it's nessesery for a junior cert exam to know about River Erosion. I think the other part is so much better and relevant.

    Well, it is Geography.

Geography = The study of the physical features of the earth and its atmosphere, and of human activity as it affects and is affected by these. :L

I feel nervous! I haven't studied Geography for ages because I'm concentrating on my weaker subjects. I hope the Map question is generic (tourism, why it developed etc). I just hope Rivers come up and Rock. I feel as if I am underestimating it!

Me too! I haven't studied it in ages, I've been concentrating on History. Even says it will be a doss, but I really know nothing about river features. I could probably name them off the top of my head but no explaining.

What is due to come up in the short questions? Do you think the plates will come up (Eurasian etc.) and the ocean currents? I'm really bad at them.

History! Sure who cares about that? Isn't it all in the past now?

Yes but its way more interesting than studying rivers and glaciers.

Something about plates comes up almost all the time. It mightn't be to name them exactly but they might ask you what country is on one or which plate collides with plate X etc...

Just have a quick browse through it tonight and keep it in your head just incase it comes up.

Guys would it be best to do the questions out of the exam papers for the long questions or revise from my book :)

Just thought the above may be useful. Short questions on Geography. Some require the New Geo book from Edco, but you might be able to guess!

I just get a red screen?
My geography teacher used a great website for short questions (for all question s) I'd really like to use now if anyone knows it. You pick your book and gives you tests on every chapter.

Just read over all my Geography notes after cramming for Maths. Should be an easy day tomorrow. The past Geography exam papers are fairly straight forward. Unless the SEC **** us over I should be okay. :)

The plates might come up. But just remember, there's only seven. Are you having trouble locating them or other stuff?

I'm frightful at the ocean currents myself. God I hope they don't show.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 621 ✭✭✭if832uspx4eogt

Where they are located, what they do. Everything I'm confused on. But also ocean currents.

Forget the book and do the exam papers, in my opinion. BUT, do look over stuff you're not confident on in the book.

Have a little peak at 'em in your book, because they do come up a lot. Currents come up less, I think. (Don't quote me on that.:o)

    Went grand, Thank God! :D

Some of the short questions were kinda hard, because we didn't cover some of the stuff,

Long questions were grand, did 2,3 and the os map..... although it took longer than I thought it would, finished with 5 mins left!

Overall, a nice exam though

yup convectional I believe, although I didn't do that q,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 153 ✭✭DaleHyland

I found it very easy thankfully, may have gotten 60/60 on short questions, I did question 3,4,5 . Had to short done in 10 mins but I spent half an hour on the sketch map! I finished the paper with no time to spare.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭graeme157

Surprisingly it took me 20 mins to do the short Qs. Usually takes 5-10 minutes. Finished with about 2mins left. Went well I thought.

Damn it :/ I wrote about conventional first but I thought it was wrong so then and did it again on cyclonic :/ do you think the examiner will be kind?

    I liked it. First exam I've been really happy with. Did Q2, 3 (A,B,D) and 5! Easily a B, hopefully an A.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51 ✭✭2creator

Did anyone else do the question on renewable energy? For my energy I wrote about tidal and the two physical features were the moon and an ocean. Does that make sense?

hmm i guess so,....i struggled with a second reason for that question too,

In the end I said hydroelectricity, with a river and low land for my features necessary,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,034 ✭✭✭dalta5billion

Damn, I titled it cyclonic but described conventional. Half marks?

    Lovely Paper :D ...did Qs 1, 2, 4

I'd say you'll only loose a mark or two for the name.

That's a good one. Besides that I think the paper went great. Fairly certain I got all the short questions right. For the long questions I did Q1, Q2 and Q3 parts A, C and D. I even had time for a bonus Q5. What are two fishing ports though?

I said Killybegs and Rosslare, which are probably wrong, was stuck for time :(

ah yeah, that would make sense,

So is a low altitude (below 200m) still acceptable....because you couldn't really build a hydroelectric plant on a mountain lol

    It was grand. I did Q. 2, 3 (A, B, C) and 5. I messed up Q. 5 A and B, so I had to re-do them in the final half hour. It was grand, besides. I feel I did quite well.

    One question; Sec 1, Q1.
the picture said it was tiny crystals so I circled basalt as that has tiny crystals. Part iii of that confused me. Burren wasn't the answer because that's limestone, so I had to go with Wicklow even though that's granite. Any help?

It said formed in the earths crust. Basalt is all formed at volcanoes and stuff, so I said Granite. I guessed that Q.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 99 ✭✭TheZestyLemon

    I did Q.1, 3A,B,C and D (I had spare time) and Q.5

    It was grand.

Oh... okay. Well I'll get the other two marks, if not the full three.

That's the beauty of Geography, you may be worng but you'll still get good marks, unlike Science with it's all or nothing , no nonsense approach.

Yeah, probably two. The answer was granite.

Granite has crystals because it is formed underground.
Basalt has no crystals. It is formed above ground.

I did 3,45 and I think the Ordnance Survey map was shi.te.

Thr historical sites were really hard, I ending up going for cannot crannóg and a fulacht fia, I named them, located them and said what they were used for.

I had real problems with the tourist question there was literally nothing to say! In the end I said the areas with forest, boating activities on the Shannon and places of historical interest, but it was really slim pickings!

The hotel question in Question 4 with the Aerial Photograph was ideal, there was a big dump site in the middle of the picture. The other parts about Women in Industry were a doodle.

Question 3 was OK, I did 3A and 3B which was fine but 3C was climates so totally out of the Quesion. I mis read 3D - I thought it meant for a renewable source of energy, what things do you need (like a hydroelectric dam, windmills etc.) I didnt think they would ask something as simple as that.

    Short questions were grand.

I answered all of section two? Will I be marked badly because the examiner'll think I rushed it? I wrote 10 pages :S
