Hi, just had a call from my younger brother in Aus... he was bench pressing in the gym the other night and the bar (90kg) slipped out of his hands at full stretch and landed down on his chest, cracking his sternum bone...

I've told him to stay out of the gym for a few weeks... has anyone got any advice on this type of injury, thanks in advance for your help...

Thanks for the reply... sorry, i should have stated... he went to the hospital straight away because he was in pain... they carried out several x-rays as they were worried that a lung could have been punctured also but it luckily it is just his sternum bone...

How long does this take to heal, usually... is there anything he should be doing apart from resting it as much as he can... thanks again...
