    Hi,
Just looking for some advice here. I'm goin for an interview in the UK next week for a secondary teaching job through an agency. Anyone have any info/advice on the what the interview is like ect. I know I have to teach but they still haven't told me any more info!!

I did an interview last year in Scotland for a private school and it took place as follows:

Morning: I met with the Head of the Business Dept and we had an informal chat for about 20 minutes. After this I was brought in to the classroom where I taught for about 20 minutes. When the school asked me for the interview they had told me the exact topic I would be teaching and the materials that would be available for me to teach with (computer / interactive whiteboard). There was only about 10 pupils in the classroom and it was difficult enough to get much interaction going with them but I think it went quite well. So I taught the lesson while the Head of the Dept sat down the back and took notes. After the teaching the Dept head brought me on a short tour of the school campus.

I then left the school on my own to go for lunch in the town. I was happy enough to leave the school for a while to go over my notes and research on the school.

Afternoon: I returned to the school at about 2:30pm and had a formal interview with the Principal, the Vice Principal, and also the Head of the Business Department. During lunch the Head of the Business Department had briefed the other two on how the morning had went. The interview was very formal and there was no stone left unturned. I'd say it went on for at least an hour if not more and covered everything from 'How would you describe your teaching style?' to 'How would you assess the pupils'

This is just my experience and i'd say that interviews vary greatly. You should find out the topic that you have to teach as soon as possible. You can prepare in advance and will take a lot of the pressure off on interview day.

    Best of luck with it!
