Maintenance Grant Question

    Hi all,

I've done a bit of searching but can't seem to find a definite answer on this.

My brother has been attending a Level 8 course in one of the NUIs for the past 2 years (it's a 3 year course) and will be entering his 3rd and final year in September of this year. This is the first course after his leaving cert that he has attended and he has never applied for/been in receipt of a maintenance grant before.
However, we have had a change of circumstances in our family and he is now looking to apply for financial assistance for the upcoming year.

My questions is, could he apply for a maintenance grant for his final year of the course or can you only make a new application for a grant if you are entering the 1st year of an approved course?

Any help would be appreciated. Cheers!

Your brother can apply for the third year of his course through SUSI on www.studentfinance.ie from next week. It will be based on 2011 tax year, however you should be able to reference the change in circumstances when making the application.
