Docking Wages

    Not entirely sure if this is the right thread for this question or not to be honest but anyway;

    I'm doing a FÁS course and last week they neglected to make an amendment to my timesheet when I was 3 hours late to class as I had an exam for college. I received an e-mail on Friday telling me that because of this, my wages would be docked by that amount this week.

    My question is, are they allowed to do this? Just inform me that they are docking my wages for a mistake that they made? Maybe it's just me but it doesn't seem right, I intend to take the matter up with them but I want to have my facts straight first. Cheers :cool:

    From this page
    Deductions from pay
    The following deductions from your pay by your employer are allowed when:

    They are required by law, for example, tax (PAYE) and social insurance (PRSI),
    They are provided for in the contract of employment, for example occupational pension contributions.
    They are made with your written consent, for example, trade union subscriptions
    They are to recover an overpayment of wages or expenses
    They are required by a court order, for example, an attachment of earnings order in a family law case
    They arise due to your being on strike

    as Eoin said

    they are fully entitled to recoup their mistake and you have no recourse
